Now, on to what I DO intend to talk about, and hopefully spur some discussion:
The NFL this weekend- Quite frankly, things will be a bit interesting. Can the Texans recover from a few stumbles with the return of two key players in the offense, and jump into a division battle that has become much more open than expected with Indianapolis falling? What will happen to the skidding Colts against an Atlanta team Thanksgiving day that is on a two-game win streak, albeit against other crappy opposition? Will Minnesota continue surging after losing their star running back? Can Cleveland and Detroit continue their unexpected playoff runs? Who really is the best in the NFC?
There's a lot of questions to be answered!
College football after the Oregon loss- How many Duck fans are having a massive letdown this weekend? With seemingly the easiest remaining schedule of any team with national title hopes, Dennis Dixon, the leading Heisman candidate, was injured in the first quarter against Arizona, and the attack fell apart, leading to yet another upset of the #2 ranked team in the nation.
What this does is put a heckuva lot of pressure on the Missouri-Kansas game this weekend; after all, the winner will face Oklahoma in the Big 12 title game, and the winner of that has a very strong case for a spot against LSU (assuming they win out) to win it all.
Don't forget West Virginia either, because they can win out and make a case to be playing for the title. Who wouldn't want to see that offense against the LSU defense? It could be a fun one, no doubt.
One team who this is really affecting is Georgia; the Bulldogs are primed for a BCS appearance, if they beat Kentucky this weekend. Currently 8th in the BCS standings, they're the top 2-loss team in the nation, and will keep moving up. Just imagine if LSU and West Virginia lost a game....hoo, boy.
A-Rod's still ridiculous salary- I love how an announcer said A-Rod "swallowed his pride" a bit by accepting a dead worth $27.5 million a year for the next 10 years. Any idea what could be done in a few countries with that kind of money? Huh, I guess greed doesn't have anything to do with this at all. I wish the Yankees hadn't offered him a deal, because I'd love to see Alex Rodriguez to do something when the pressure is on in the playoffs before they dish out the cash. Now, before you thumb me down for that last statement, I do realize he's a fantastic baseball player who will probably break the HR record in the years to come, and that's a ton of revenue to be had. I know. But the best of the best are remember for their cool under pressure, something A-Rod hasn't shown in the playoffs yet. Though he'll more than likely get a few more shots at it.
Fantasy Football- Aaaaarrrrrggggghhhh.
Yeah. That's how it's going right now. I lost ground in almost every league I play in. Terrible week last week. And i have no trades on either league, either! AND, I missed that Seattle D/ST pick a couple of weeks back- that's some serious pointage they've put up since. And Washington isn't doing me anything. Green Bay is, though, and they may be available in your league....yes, that'd be a hint!
College basketball- That's my team, all right. I mean the Tennessee Volunteer women's squad, who owned up on a good Oklahoma team last night. That's why we're at the top, baby! Now let's get the men going, and I'll have plenty of sports to last me through the new year
Memphis wasn't looking so hot, but managed to cruise down the stretch. Anybody looking forward to a Memphis-Georgetown match-up anytime soon?
Anyway, there you have it- an article about some of the other stuff, which is more prevalent to the sporting world! Hope you haven't thrown something at anything ESPN related today, and have some Ibuprofen nearby in case you do!
