This Mind of Mine

Nancie Norton
As I sit here thinking, I wonder why
Birds can't talk, and people can't fly

But isn't that silly? My mind is playing games
It gives me something to do, to keep me sane

Confusion usually rules my day
Making mistakes, with things that I say

My memory is always playing tricks on me
And my eyes sometimes block out, things that I see

If my job depended on things that I hear
I would have been gone, early last year

I hope if you read this you can understand
That sometimes I have trouble with life's demands

At those times, running away is such an attraction
I try to get away by a self made distraction

Sometimes it works, if I give it enough time
But, I sure do get frustrated with this mind of mine!

I wrote this in July 2006
