This Mother's Work

A Typical Busy Day in the Life of a Mother

Kathleen Shaeffer
This mother's work
is never done
from early morn
til day is gone.

Up at six
feed the flock,
then it's work
around the clock.

Sweep the floors
Start the chores.
Ridding the dust
is a must.

Must remember
to feed the cat
who wants attention,
no time for that.

Then the laundry
needs to be done.
Throw in a load,
then back on the run.

Time for lunch.
I need the rest
the kids decided
they'd put me to a test.

Let's go to McDonalds
we want a Happy Meal.
I don't have to cook,
so, it sounds like a deal.

Back at home,
no time to shirk,
it's to the bathroom
ewww dirty work.

Oh, I forgot
the laundry. So,
back to the washer
and dryer I go.

Ooops, breakfast
dishes, still in the sink.
Throw them in the dishwasher,
quick as a wink.

Time to start
thinking of dinner.
Ordering pizza,
sounds like a winner.

Dinner plans are
out of the way.
Thank goodness, for delivery,
that makes my day.

Hurry to the dryer
before the wrinkles set.
Fold the clothes in record time,
as if there was a bet.

Time for hubby,
his workday is over.
Fix yourself up,
remember that's your lover.

Dinner's here
now I get a break,
is the day over?
Oh, for Pete's sake.

Whatever is left
for me to do,
can wait til tomorrow.
I am through!
