This is Not 'Girls Gone Wild' in Haiti

Jacob Horn
Over the weekend there was a pretty big stir caused by the actions of a few Puerto Rican doctors who were helping earthquake victims in Haiti. The pictures showed the doctors drinking and posing with soldiers weapons. There was also a picture taken that showed a patient half nude. Now, do not get me wrong, these doctors did not display the intellect it took them to become doctors when they took these pictures, especially as it pertains to the half nude patient. I also understand there are some ethics issues regarding their practice but beyond the picture of the half nude patient I did not see a big deal regarding the other pictures.

I am going to make the assumption that these doctors are possibly working for free. Even if they are not working for free, they are going to work in one of the most miserable places on earth, even before the earthquake happened. If doctors and others are willing to sacrifice their time and possibly a lot more to help the people of Haiti, I say lighten up on them. They spend hours each day in one of the most dire situations of all time, heaven forbid that they spend a little bit of time laughing and enjoying themselves in their free time. Maybe if these same doctors had gone around trying to get the women of Haiti to lift their shirts we should be upset, but drinking and posing with weapons does not tarnish what these doctors were doing.
