This is Not the Real World

Paul Rance
A snake came through a mandolin window,
I can hear a scream,
It was inside my head,
A man-eating runner bean.

Maniac laughter from the living dead,
A man came out of the Turin shroud,
Skeletons talking out loud.

Giants ants on the march,
A riot at Marble Arch.

World War Three has just begun,
The lights go out and no more sun.
No more sun, no more sun, no more... sun.

Notes: I haven't a clue what a mandolin window is! I think this was a poem inspired by a dream, or a number of dreams, and I was getting interested in Surrealism at the time, too! This poem was written in 1980, and in 1988 ended up on (my underground group) The Peace & Freedom Band's 'Life' album.

Maybe the shape of the window could be in the shape of a mandolin. Very nice that you are sharing the oldies but goodies from your collection. My daughter is a painter and she does surrealism very well. She has had 2 pieces put on display at the Salvador Dali Museum in St.Petersburg.

This is a cool poem because it leaves things open to the imagination. Surreal for sure!

great job! the song Mandolin wind was about a couple almost facing doom during "one of the coldest winters" maybe the title of the song stuck in your mind?

A poem inspired by a dream... that's lovely. Though this one is more a nightmare, isn't it?
