Thought for the New Year:
Be always at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let each new year find you a better man. ~Benjamin Franklin
Congratulations to Janet Hunt who was just selected to be the Associated Content Featured Business & Finance Contributor. Janet got this assignment due to her business background and her excellent business related articles. She joins some of AC's other outstanding featured writers! Nice job!
Trivia:
1. What year was the first New Year's Eve ball drop in Times Square?
2. What does Auld Lang Syne mean?
3. What is the most popular New Year's Day parade?
4. What New Year's tradition began in Greece around 600 BC?
5. At what time does the ball in Times Square begin to lower?
And the Survey Says:
I asked several AC writers: If you could make the year 2010 the best ever, how would you do it?
Here are their unedited answers.
Frank:
In response to your question, I would feel the best if I could keep my health long enough to help ailing or older family and friends. It seems too common that these folks are lost due to our busy ( we think ) lives.
The more I can do the better I feel. Sometimes it is a challenge, but I often ask myself, If not me who ? The smile is the paycheck.
Jay crider:
Personally: My goal is to stop smoking by the end of January by implementing the step down method.
Family: To help my family make the best year ever in 2010 I must continually better myself for the greater good of all.
Professionally: I seek to enhance my customer service skills by putting myself out there more often and take more risk with meeting new individuals.
Globally: I feel that on a global scale that there is not much I can do, but what I will do is to continue planting in my garden and recycling.
Dan Reveal:
On a personal level, making the year 2010 the best ever would just be a matter of continuing to share good ideas with others, making new friends along the way. 2009 was a good year because I had the chance to meet such nice people at Associated Content. I've felt so inspired to show my real human feelings and just want others to feel safe doing that with me as well. Thank you all!
Linda Louise Johnson:
Here is what would make 2010 the best year ever:
Forgiveness. No holding onto anything dark or cruel in tightly clenched fists, just hands open wide so injuries, real and imagined, fall through our fingers.
Hope. Seeing the world and the future with the optimistic hope that even the bad brings good, and that ultimately only the good will remain.
Humor. More merriment in our hearts, more ability to see the quirky, ridiculous side of things, to have the merry heart that does good like a medicine.
Restoration. Where there has been division, failure, treachery, and disease, the restoration of unity, victory, honesty, and health.
Faith. A growing hunger for God, a deepening faith in His power and love.
Abby Greenhill:
I will try to make it the best year ever by being more positive about things that I cannot change. If I can keep Abby (the real Abby) healthy and happy with all her ailments that will make my year the best.
Thank you all for participating! Check back next week to find out what question I asked and who responded! If you would like to answer the next question send me a PM!
Trivia Answers:
1. 1907
2. Times gone by
