Top 10 Buck 65 Songs #10 - Food
Snax with an x, whatever, just feed me.
I couldn't find the album information for this song, but there is no doubt from this crazy song that Buck 65 is an absolute genius. Who else could flow so well for 3 minutes 34 seconds about food?
Top 10 Buck 65 Songs #9 - 1957
We all go to heaven in a little row boat.
From Buck 65's blog on his MySpace page, he reminds us that 1957 was a pivotal year in history: it was the year of Frisbee, Tang, Jailhouse Rock. It was the year Bettie Page mysteriously vanished, the year the Beat Generation was born, the year of ongoing obscenity trials in the U.S. congress. 1957 was the year of sex, drugs, rock and roll and youth rebellion. He wrote, "1957 was the beginning of the end. The events of the year 1957 created a legacy that affects the way we live and think 50 years later." (Situation, 2007)
Top 10 Buck 65 Songs #8 - Cries a Girl
Fear is forever, and lies become legend.
This song is about a girl, Stella, and her trials of living poor in a small town. With rumors flying about incest and inbreeding, Buck 65 describes a beautiful girl whose name reminds him of the stars up in the sky. I grew up in a small town, and I understand how devastating the rumor mill can be. There are no secrets in a small town. (This Right Here Is Buck 65, 2005)
Top 10 Buck 65 Songs #7 - Dang
Heads poppin' off, you're an orgasm-atic.
Buck 65 mimics Kid Rock's song 'Bawitdaba' with his chorus. This is a great song with sounds of 'Wipe Out', especially with the drum track. An odd combination for sure, but well worth a listen. (Situation, 2007)
Top 10 Buck 65 Songs #6 - Way Back When
Back when we didn't know the ass from the elbow.
I have this little ditty on my MySpace profile. I found it on Buck 65's myspace page, and out of those five or six songs featured, 'Way Back When' was my favorite. Buck 65 is reminiscing about the good ol' days. (Situation, 2007)
Top 10 Buck 65 Songs #5 - Roses and Bluejays
He's a Grizzly Bear.
This song is a tribute to Buck 65's father. It's a very sweet song describing all about who his father is. This song resonates with me as I lost my own father 14 years ago, and it makes me smile to hear Buck 65 commemorate his father so beautifully. (Talkin' Honky Blues, 2003 and This Right Here Is Buck 65, 2005)
Top 10 Buck 65 Songs #4 - 463
I can't think of a better way to end the day.
I'm ashamed to say that despite my love of baseball, my ex-husband had to explain to me what "463" meant. It's a double play from the second baseman to the shortstop to the first base. In this song, Buck 65 laments about the state of the youth today, and how things were so much more simple... and gritty... when he was young. (This Right Here Is Buck 65, 2005)
Top 10 Buck 65 Songs #3 - Wicked and Weird
Dish ran away with some other spoon.
It's a roadtrip, Buck 65 style. In this song, he references his favorites: baseball and the Bible. A strange mix of country and hip hop, Buck 65 has a sock puppet dog riding shotgun in his old Pontiac as an El Camino drives by with a couple of girls dancing in the back. (Talkin' Honky Blues, 2003)
Top 10 Buck 65 Songs #2 - Devil's Eyes
There's a sound that we make when we sleep... around.
A friend once told me I'm like a duck, calm and serene on the surface, yet paddling fiercely just beneath the water trying to stay afloat. Buck 65 and his female vocal partner Feist make a statement about the lives we live, under that surface, that only the Devil's eyes can see. It's a different sound once again from Buck 65, with guitar and strings prevalent in the music, and Buck 65 is actually singing in this one. If his gravelly speaking voice made you pause, this ballad will make you shiver. (Secret House Against the World, 2005)
Top 10 Buck 65 Songs #1 - Drawing Curtains
Show me where it hurts and let me kiss it.
I could only find a clip of this tune on the Internet, but the haunting music from this melody alone makes it worth purchasing the whole album. With French and English combined, Buck 65 and Feist really mix it up with this song, taking turns with the lyrics. It's a dirty, sexy song about pain and love. This is my ultimate favorite Buck 65 song. (Secret House Against the World, 2005)

Post a CommentRicardo is what I got from his Buck 65 website and his myspace page. Wikipedia said his name was Richard, but Wiki's not always so reliable. I figured I would get it straight from the source himself. Thanks for the comment!
His name is actually Rich or Richard (not Ricardo), but good song selection.
awesome article - he's hot!
oh my God I love his!!! Never heard of him, am addicted now. It's Beck meets Tom Waits meets The Beastie Boys meets Neverlast meets Soulcoughing. Amongst his friends on MySpace are Charlotte Gainsbourg and TOM WAITS!!!! In 1957, he uses Waits' line 'We all go to heaven in a little row boat' (comes from 'Clap Hands'). Thnx soooooo much for this.
