Twenty-six year old Ryan Shaw was born in Decater, Georgia to a very religious family. Non-religious music was seldom heard in the Shaw house.
It was not until college that young Ryan's eyes were opened to the vast array of music present in the world. Like a number of musicians Ryan got his start in the church. Ryan began singing at age three and performed his first solo when he was only five. In 1998 Ryan moved to New York to perform in the theatre. After the play Ryan returned to singing; only this time it was the Soul and R&B of the fifties and sixties.
His debut album "This is Ryan Shaw" is a mix of a few original songs and the music from the likes of Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Billy Womack, and Jackie Wilson. "We Got Love" from the album has been featured on the ABC show "Brothers and Sisters".
Ryan's voice is a perfect match for the music of early Motown and even the original pieces are a match to the era. In fact if you didn't know which was which you couldn't tell.
Until a few years ago Ryan Shaw never even knew this music existed and yet his voice is a perfect match as if it was always meant to be.
Ryan Shaw is an artist worth checking out. He is a pleasant surprise in an era full of hip-hop and rap.
