This summer the economy makes it necessary for many travelers to stay at home. Travel doesn't have to take you miles away; it can be right around the corner.

A visit to local events and places of interesting in Oregon can be a fun vacation for those who live locally. A visit to the Oregon Vortex can be a great start to your Oregon vacation. This strange and unique phenomenon is located at 4303 Sardine Creek L Ford Rd., Gold Hill Oregon. While visiting the Oregon Vortex take in the famous House of Mystery. The Oregon Vortex is a place where everyday physical facts seem to be reversed. The House of Mystery was the local assay office in its day and was later taken over and used as a tool storage for the Old Grey Eagle Mining Company. The Oregon Vortex is open everyday - seven days a week March 1st through October 31st from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm cost is between $7.00 and $8.00.

While on your Oregon vacation be sure to head towards the Oregon Coast and visit the famous Bandon Oregon home of the West Coast Game Park which is just 7 miles south of the city of Bandon. Give the family a chance to see wild animals close and within touching distance. Educational programs go on at the West Coast Game Park free for the public. Let your family members learn about our wild animal partners on our planet.

If you don't wish to travel to the coast and up hwy 101 then stay on I-5 and visit Wildlife Safari in Winston Oregon during your Oregon vacation. This fantastic Wild Animal Park allows you to drive through each individual area getting a close view and pictures of the wild animals housed there. This animal park is home to over 500 animals and they areal roaming free. The drive through the park is 4.5 miles and you will see up close animals from Africa, Asia and America. Located at 1790 Safari Rd., Winston Oregon hours of operation are 1000 am - 4:00 pm October 1st to March 19th and 9:00 am - 5:00 pm March 20th to October 1st.

While on your Oregon Vacation travel North from Winston Oregon and can visit the famous Oregon State Fair taking place August 28, to September 7, 2009. Located at the Salem Fairgrounds this is one of Oregon's largest events of the summer. Free entertainment, concerts and shows, a fun center with rides and games in Family Ville, along with displays and exhibits from our local residents from fruits, vegetables, animals, photography, fine art and more. There are sports and health events, a Win Celebration, Rodeo finals from NPRA, Food and drinks, Artesian Village with art and crafts, a section on Science and Technology, Horse shows, Animal Exhibits and live webcams of the fair while it is happening.

Then on up I-5 to Portland Oregon to complete your Oregon Vacation, visiting our great areas such as the Japanese Garden www.japanesegarden.com , Chinese Gardens www.portlandchinesegarden.org , OMSI, www.omsi.edu, Portland Children's Museum www.portlandcm.com , and the Oregon Zoo www.oregonzoo.com. Visit each of these websites for hours of operation and directions to each area.

These adventures can be day adventures or weekend getaways which ever you and your family have the time and finances to enjoy for this summers Oregon vacation.
