This Task Will Be Difficult

As I take this task on, I realize I have never done this before.
"Write a Sestina" was what was asked of writers
who, I am sure, will do an excellent job.
For me, I like the challenge of this thing
because it taxes my brain and makes me think.
So here is my humble and first attempt.

I have to think and count as I make this attempt
because as I mentioned, I have never done it before.
What words to use is what really made me think,
is this what happens to all of us, we writers?
I am reading words and enjoying this thing,
and I am realizing this Sestina is a tough job.

Who am I kidding taking on this job?
I am worried about my first attempt
because I had no idea about this thing.
If a Sestina is something not created before,
it certainly is good work for writers
because it will definitely make them think.

With kids around the house, it's hard to think,
which is why I work at home for my job.
That is the perk of being writers
who can work at home and make this attempt.
I was hoping to rely on other work from before
but it's not helping me with this thing.

Now maybe I am getting the hang of this thing
because I let myself have time to think.
Even in my college writing classes, before
I graduated, this was never an assignment or job.
We were never asked to make this attempt
in order for us to be good writers.

I am proud of myself and my fellow writers
for really taking a crack at this thing.
Because just taking time to make the attempt
may help all of us when we need to think.
This Sestina business will never be my job,
but it may help us write better than before.

We appreciate your attempt to read us as writers.
So, of course, before you pan this thing,
Take time to think how hard I worked at this job.
