This Thing that We Call Love

Nancie Norton
I wrote this in 1971, young and idealistic, reading it
now, This was really deep for a 17 year old.....I still
have the original copy.

How do we define love?
Well, it's really hard to tell
Some describe it as Heaven
Some say it's living hell

Love comes in many forms
Some say it's the art of Giving
And some may say I'm wrong
But I say it's the art of living

You have to have faith in God
You have to have love of friends
To go on living in this cruel world
And not bring your life to an end

A Mother beats her child because she loves him
A soldier kills at three, and dies at four
A child screams while being molested
A man stands by and watches, but does nothing more

Is this what love is all about?
The thing that young girls dream of?
The thing that unites all mankind
This thing that we call Love!
