This Week in Depression - Work

When You Don't Have a Job, You Have a Lot of Time to Write

Carmen Isom
If you're anything like me, there is something that you've always wanted to do since you were a little girl (or a little boy). You've always had a dream that tugs at your heart or your spirit and makes you wake up in the morning. Whether it be homemaking, business, filmmaking, nursing, cooking, etc., this dream is something that you don't want to give and probably never will.

Unfortunately, to get to that dream, you have to have a full-time job just to make it until that dream happens. If you're also like me and went to school for most of your life and then had to make it almost immediately in the real world, you know it's not as easy as it seems. Those people who go to college aren't told that it will be more difficult than e think. Sure, we're told that we'll have problems and that it's tough but there are no specifics although people who have been through it know exactly what it means.

So you look for a job and look for a job. You work temp just so you can pay the bills. You work part-time so you can look for other work that actually relates to what you really want to do. Sadly, there are probably thousands of other people looking for that same job if you're in the city. So you borrow money from other people, your friends, your Mom and hardly have anything to pay it back. You keep searching online job sites, you keep calling people for jobs. And still nothing.

You end up having to work at some fast food restaurant you hate and flipping burgers until you move up to management until your dream is squashed and you've become complacent where you are. But some of us, only some of us, will starve and not pay our credit cards or our house not or our car payments until that one break comes. We don't know when it will be or what it will be but we have hope.

But still, I feel like going over to the Taco Bell and seeing what opportunities they have there.

Next week in depression . . . . .family.
