He could be a marked man. Wayne Gretzky got fined $10K and his D Nick Boynton got suspended for Boynton's fight with Steve Bernier late in Tuesday's shutout loss to San Jose. Marion Gaborik finally returned to Minnesota's lineup. He scored and they won. Ottawa is the first team to 30 points.

Jake Peavy took the NL Cy Young. Dustin Pedroia and Ryan Braun took home Rookie of the Year honors in their respective leagues. Cleveland's Eric Wedge and Arizona's Bob Melvin won Manager of the Year for their respective leagues. The Phillies re-signed J.C. Romero to a three-ear deal. A-Rod won his ninth Silver Slugger. It appears he is set to sign a ten-year $275 million deal. Vlad won his seventh. Chicago dealt Jacque Jones to Detroit for Omar Infante. Todd Jones re-signed with Detroit. Jorge Posada signed a four-year extension with the Yankees. Kevin Youkilis shaved his goatee for charity. The Twins made their major offseason move. No they didn't deal Santana yet, they traded with Chicago for Craig Monroe. The Mets scooped up free agent catcher Yorvit Torrealba. Joe Nuxall, the youngest player in MLB history at 15 years, 10 months, and 11 days, lost his bout with cancer. He was 79.
#1 Ohio State got beat by Illinois. Whoops. Maryland upset #8 Boston College. Wisconsin pasted #12 Michigan. Cincinnati smoked #13 UConn. Mississippi State took down #22 Alabama. #10 Georgia beat #18 Auburn. #19 Virginia blanked Miami 48-0. Ouch. Colt Brennan tied the NCAA mark with his 121st TD pass. How left with a concussion though. Florida's Tim Tebow ran for 5 TDs and threw 2 more. Nebraska's Joe Ganz had 510 yards passing with 7 TDs. Texas Tech coach Mike Leach got fined $10K for ripping officials. #2 Oregon kicked the college week off with an upset loss Thursday night to Arizona. Heisman hopeful Dennis Dixon was injured in the process. Other big games this week are #4 Oklahoma vs. 7-4 Texas Tech, #6 West Virginia vs. #22 Cincinnati, #7 Ohio State vs. #21 Michigan (did they both look past their opponents last week?), #9 Georgia vs. #23 Kentucky, and #15 Clemson vs. #17 Boston College.
O.J. Mayo made his highly anticipated debut with 32 points, but #18 USC lost to Mercer. Jonny Flynn scored 28 for Syracuse in his debut, break Carmelo Anthony's record. Eric Gordon trumped them all with 33 in his debut with Indiana. N.C. State's freshamn J.J. Hickson went 12 for 12 from the field to score 31 in his debut. Kansas G Sherron Collins is out 4-6 weeks with a stress fracture to his foot. Georgia G Billy Humphrey for possession of a long knife. Kentucky will be without G Jodie Meeks for a month because of a stress fracture. #5 Georgetown pounded Michigan. #3 Memphis faces UConn today. #17 Arizona plays Virginia on Saturday.
