This World is Not a Part of Me

And I'm Not a Part of It

Melissa Lawson
This world is not a part of me
and I'm not a part of it.
Sometimes, it seems like parts of life
are really just the pits!
I wish I could reach out to them
and show them what I am,
Instead of wishing the Hourglass
would stop flowing Its sand.

I'm not a part of the busy world
and it's not a part of me.
I wish I could turn them all around
and really make them see.
That life is not the joke it seems;
it's a serious part of Time.
I feel that those who laugh at Life
are committing the worst of crimes.

No one out there understands
why I feel this way.
They don't see this as I do,
and that is why I say
I don't belong to this old world,
not even where I sit.
No, this world is not a part of me,
and I'm not a part of it.

I'm a single mom of one wonderful little girl. I've moved around a lot in my lifetime, and have been through many things. I consider myself a survivor.  View profile

The first two lines really grabbed me. I don't think it gets much lonelier than the emotion expressed in those two lines.
