This World of Ours

Mona Rigdon
This is our world
With its wars
And famines
And hurricanes
Its litter
Its rush
Its toil.
This is our world
With its noise
And fighting
And meanness
Its sadness
its tears
Its royals
And in our world,
I see we don't
Appreciate the other things
We focus on the things that hurt us
We take uppers to get up
And downers to go down
And pills to make us happy
And drinks to make us forget.
We worry about money
We worry about things
We worry about opinions
We worry about politicians
States away on a map
Galaxies away by cares
And we can't sleep.
We can't eat, or we eat too much.
We worry worry worry
But don't DO anything
We don't do anything to change
It's easy to lie in bed, watching
The evening news, and lament
About what the world has come to
But we never ask ourselves, not really
"What should we do?"
This world is ours.
I'm asking.
What should I do?
