Thoughtful (and Cheap!) Mother's Day Gifts

Miss Jac
Sure there's always flowers, but flowers have to be one of the most trite (and expensive, depending on the arrangement) Mother's Day gifts out there. If you're like me and are on an insanely tight budget then you know that one Mother's Day gift can set you back quite a bit. However, you can use a little bit of that creative brain power you've got stored away, and come up with some fantastic, and cheap, Mother's Day gifts that will warm any Mom's heart.

A self-made card. Some might think that this is just as tired as flowers, or just for six year olds, well it's not. I'm twenty-three years old and my mom actually requested that I make a card for her this year. If you're not that much of an artist, just remember to write something to her from the heart. Most Moms would rather you put a little time, thought, and effort into something rather than sending along a dozen roses that will die in a week anyway, to the front door.

Dinner: This dinner needs to be made by you, for it to be extra special and moderately cheap. Moms are always the ones getting stuck worrying about feeding the family day in and day out, so taking a night off and being able to relax while someone else slaves over a hot-stove will be a very welcome change. Tell her to pop in a movie or unwind in a bubble bath while you cook up the meal. Mom's rarely get much time to themselves so really not only are you cooking up a dinner that they don't have to worry about, but you're also giving them an extra hour in their day to do something they wouldn't normally have time to do.

Plan a Day Trip: There are tons of possibilities with planning a little get-away trip for you and your mom. If she's into art then take her to the city museum, or if she likes the outdoors, plan a picnic lunch and a short hike. My mom loves film so it would be fitting for me to take her to one of the artsy movies they play in town for free. There are so many choices, just depending on your mom's personality and what she enjoys doing in her spare time. Plus the fact that you've taken time out of your schedule to spend time with her, doing something she enjoys, will mean more to her than any expensive gift.

No matter what you do, just remember to do it with love, as this is all a Mom really wants in the end anyway. If you're not already a Mom know that you could someday be one and then they'll be one special day out of the year for you to be cherished by your own children.
