Thoughtful Housewarming Gift Ideas

1. A house plant is one of the most popular of housewarming gifts, it will be around to remind your friend of your thoughtfulness for years to come. Not only will it add asthetic beauty but it will also bring a little bit of the outdoors inside, which can be quite calming and relaxing. If you aren't sure what kind of light your friend's new house has it's best to stick with a houseplant that requires low light like violets. Please be aware that certain plants are poisonous to pets so if you aren't sure if the new homeowner has a pet or plans to get one it's best to choose a plant that is safe for everyone and everything. House cats are poisoned by Poinsettias each Christmas season because their owners are simply unaware.

2. Baked goods can be a tasty gift, but you don't have to stick with just sweets. A new homeowner is, no doubt, very busy for the first few weeks unpacking and making their new house into a home. During this time, not much cooking is done because it will only slow down progress, so why not show a bit of consideration and replace the baked goods with a hearty casserole or pasta dish.

3. A bottle of good wine or champagne should not be reserved for a wedding or anniversary; owning a home is a big step in most people's life and it should be celebrated as such. You can make a wine gift basket from some different less expensive wines and top it off with a bottle of champagne. Almost anything can be used as the "basket" for your gift "basket" so be creative and let your imagination run wild; try creating a fresh fruit basket with the bottle of champagne as the centerpiece. If you're lucky, you might be invited to sample the wears as well.

4. Towels can be a thoughtful and practical gift to a new homeowner. If you aren't sure what color scheme they are using in their decor choose neutral tones like white, tan, or gray with little or no patterns or embellishments unless you know for a fact that the person you are buying them for likes that sort of thing. This way you are giving a simple but thoughtful gift that anyone can appreciate.

5. Instead of giving a gift basket filled with treats as a housewarming present, a gift basket of cleaning supplies or a toolbox filled with tools can be more useful to a new homeowner. Most new homeowners will not realize what tools they will be needing to keep up their new place until it is too late, so why not save them the trouble and give them something that will come in handy instead of something they will pack away and forget.
