Thoughtful Mother's Day Gifts for Single Moms
Alone time. How often do single mothers get time alone? I suspect it's very seldom. Likely, she will want to spend time with her children on Mother's Day, but offer to baby-sit the kids later that week while she spends some time to herself.
Ready-made dinner. Single moms are busy, so they have to fit dinner in between giving kids rides and helping them with homework, not to mention all the housework that needs to get done. Make dinner for this single mom and bring it over (but make sure she does not already have dinner plans).
Day at the spa. Single moms - or most moms, I'm sure - do not have time to spend at the spa. There are many mothers who do not have time to pamper themselves at all. A gift certificate to the local spa is a simple luxury that will be much appreciated. Offer to baby-sit so she does not have to spend extra money on a baby-sitter.
The gift of time. Mothers, especially those who are raising their children alone, should be spending as much time as they can with their kids while they are still young. But there is always housework to do. Offer to help your single friend out with organizing, cooking dinner - whatever. She will appreciate your gift of time. Plus, it will give you the opportunity to spend quality time catching up.
Little luxuries. Many mothers I know do not spend money on little luxuries like perfume or chocolates for themselves. Their kids tend to come first, as it should be. But it can be fun to get something just for yourself from time to time. Buy her something special that she can enjoy just for herself.
Single mothers deserve to have a special Mother's Day as much as anyone else. But these ladies may not have someone to plan something special for them, especially if their children are young. If you know a single mother, help her make this holiday memorable by giving her a little something special.
