His brand of dry humor and less than electric one-liners left a lot to be desired, at least in my opinion. In short, Dennis Miller had no business being on Raw. So that said, let's look at some of the Slammy's that were handed out last week.
Tag Team of the Year was won by Chris Jericho and The Big Show. Not overly surprised here, because the tag team division is just really lackluster of late. You have The Hart Dynasty and Legacy, but other than that, the majority of the teams in WWE right now are throw togethers. Mark Henry and MVP is big example of that.
Diva of the Year went to Maria. Firm belief is the only reason she won the award was to promote her appearance on the upcoming season of Celebrity Apprentice. Other than that, it should've gone to someone like Mickie James, Michelle McCool, or even Beth Phoenix. At least someone who has been there all year and busted their butt like everybody else.
Guest Host of the Year was awarded to Bob Barker. He taped a prerecorded acceptance speech because he wasn't able to be in attendance. I have no real opinion on this because I'm not a big fan of the whole guest host gimmick that Vince is doing right now.
Extreme Moment of the Year went to Jeff Hardy doing a Swanton onto CM Punnk through the table at SummerSlam. Personally, as big as that moment was, it didn't beat the night that Hardy did the Swanton from the TitanTron screen into the dumpster onto Randy Orton back in January. I thought it was a bigger and more "extreme" moment, coming from a company that seemingly forgot what Extreme is all about.
Breakout star of the Year went to Sheamus. I was happy with this one, because I like the fact that WWE is pushing their younger guys. It's one of the few things they're doing right lately. Putting the WWE Championship on him at TLC was just enough to turn the lives of all the internet marks upside down. Me being a wrestler, I love it!
Finally, John Cena wins Superstar of the Year. Really? Who DIDN'T see that coming? They have turned Cena into Superman. Minus the big dent coming from the TLC pay-per-view, there's nothing Cena apparently can't do! I liked the idea of the one-night tournament to declare the Superstar of the Year. But personally, Randy Orton should've walked out with that. But I guess since it involved Cena, somebody else who was thoroughly better this year wasn't allowed to get the high spot for the night.
Last week was the sole reason I am loving TNA right now. Great action, a champion that everybody can like and relate to, and main events like last night's between AJ Styles and Daniels that would rival the HBK/Undertaker match from WrestleMania 25 here in Houston. WWE needs to step it up...BAD!
