Thoughts on the Miley Cyrus Photo Scandal

As some of you may already know, rumors about teen pop idol Miley Cyrus -- also known as Hannah Montana -- have been recently circulating the net. The rumors say Cyrus is posing in her underwear. These photos may send the wrong message to teens today.

With such incidents as the Brittney Spears mess, Janet Jackson's "oops," and countless other female idols, the youth in America are left confused. Do they A) Idol these women, and do exactly as then do? or B) Be sensible, but go against the grain of society and risk being labeled as a loser?

One trip to the mall will leave you utterly shocked. Little girls today (and yes, not teenagers -- little girls) can be seen parading around in miniskirts, tank tops, and the ever popular clothing with words like cutie and princess stamped across the seat. It is still uncertain as to whether the blame should fall on the parents, the children, society, or all three. It is my opinion that the blame be placed on all three.

Parents are to blame for letting their kids out of the house dressed like that. They know the kinds of sick people that are in the world and it is their duty as parents to protect their children from them. Letting little girls go to the mall dressed like Brittney Spears is NOT the way to go about this.

The children can be blamed just as much as the parents. Whether or not they are told by their parents that wearing these clothes or saying these phrases is a bad thing, they certainly hear it elsewhere. They know full well that what they are doing will attract attention. Good or bad attention...well to them it doesn't really matter.

Some people are saying that the photos released of Miley Cyrus are merely pictures from a sleepover. In some of the pictures, Miley can be seen with a friend. How many teenage girls these days spend time at a sleepover taking pictures? Most, if not all of them. This is a common occurrence, and Miley should not be blamed for these "racy" pictures. She certainly wasn't aware they were going to be shared and neither- for that matter- was Disney.

Calls for Disney to keep a tighter lease on their new pop star would be better left unheard. She is just a teenager, doing what teenagers do at sleepovers.

I ran a Google search on these photos, and I found that they were not near as bad as they sound.

However, girls viewing these photos may not realize that she is just like them. In their eyes, she is the one to idolize, to imitate, and to revere.

Too often young women in the eye of the world are turned into, quite frankly, little whores. This sends a terrible message to teens around the world, and in those cases, the idols are to blame.

To me, this particular case is nothing but bad luck for Miley Cyrus.
