I enjoyed watching all the interviews taking place on the Red Carpet. Everyone was dressed nice and classy (with the exceptions of a few slutty dresses) and walked with an air of dignity. I must say, I was a little shocked when Ryan Seacrest called Beyonce "hot" during her shoot with the Glam Cam. How degrading is that? Beyonce is a very beautiful woman who deserves more than the sexually excited comment of "hot". Maybe you could say it around friends, but definitely not on live TV. I actually listened to Miley Cyrus in her short talk with Ryan Seacrest as well and I discovered, not much to my surprise, that she is just like any other teenage girl.
I was excited when the performances began - looking and hoping to see some incredible vocal talent grace the stage. The first performance that I saw was with Bon Jovi. He sounded good on "Who Says You Can't Go Home" - given the fact that it is a live perfomance, you have to give some leeway with vocals. However, I was quite disappointed with "Livin' On A Prayer" because he was flat almost the entire time. The key was just too high. You could see it in his face that he was struggling for those notes.
The next performance I remember seeing was "Like A Bridge Over Troubled Water", sung by Mary J Blige and Andrea Bocelli. This was the best vocal performance of the night (of the ones that I saw) - big surprise, right? Andrea and Mary both have beautiful voices. They did an excellent job with the song and their harmonies were nice (Mary was a little flat on harmony at the very end of the song, but that's nitpicky). As for critiques, Andrea uses so much vibrato that it makes it very hard to mesh with other singers. He has been built for solo performances, and strong vibrato is always a struggle when singing in a group. Mary had an obvious break when she went to hit high notes - she would flip into a stylistic falsetto. I'm not saying that the stylistic falsetto is bad, but by the way her voice sounded, I don't believe she had any other option but to flip into falsetto. Like I said before, I am being nitpicky - they had a wonderful performance.
The last performance I paid attention to was the rap trio of Drake, Eminem, and Lil' Wayne. As for vocals...well, not there. Drake would have been the best vocally, but rap isn't renowned for its epic vocalists. I don't think I caught one word of Lil' Wayne while he was rapping - partly because I couldn't understand, partly because almost everything he rapped caught the obscene filter. Eminem impressed me with his rapping skills - it truly showed why he has been around so long. Why? Because he is good at rapping. Period. I didn't pay much attention to Drake (cause I had never heard of him before to be completely honest) but his performance was just "ok".
That's about all the analysis I could conjure up from my fragmented viewing of the Grammy Awards 2010. Your thoughts and comments?

Great article. :)
As award shows go, it was average. Sad that they have to bleep some songs because offensive words have become the norm for some popular artists!
That song my Mary and Andrea, "Like A Bridge Over Troubled Water", was I think about as beautiful rendition of that song as I'v ever heard. That alone was wroth watching. Nicely done Thomas. You are a great reviewer and writer.
It's a shame that a very entertaining show overall had to end with a performance (Drake, Eminem, and Lil' Wayne) where most of it was bleaped due to obscenities. Is that entertainment? What about kids that had permission to stay up and watch? What about real talent which does not need to stoop to tehhe lowest common denominator. Shame on Target for not refusing to support this low standard.
great points about Andrea Bochelli- he is a virtuoso. I've heard him duet in Italian with other Italian singers and it works better. And that was totally tacky on Seacrest's part.
I've never watched award shows. I don't know why, I just have never really had much interest in them.
T - I have to agree with you. I was sort of watching it, doing other stuff and not really paying much attention overall. Cheers.
Thank you for sharing this information, I not seen this yet but just heard that Michael Jackson children received his award on the evening news whilst I was reading this review.
I loved it when Elton John sang. Was nice to see some people almost my age.
