Thoughts on Ric Flair Leaving the WWE

Bruce Bostwick
In what would be considered perhaps one of the biggest shockers of the year would be that Ric Flair is no longer under contract with the WWE. This is something you would have never guessed or even thought would become a reality in the first place. By reading and listening to interviews, you would assume that he would have a lifetime WWE contract but alas that is not the case. Now, he can be free and do autograph sessions for the NWA and wherever else he plans on doing so in the near future. Most likely I would not recommend him getting back in the ring after the way he had retired with grace and dignity.

As wrestling fans are aware and maybe non-wrestling fans as well, he had retired and been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2008 as the main attraction. His last match was against one of the all-time greats in the WWE being Shawn Michaels. That match had everything you could ask for and more. In my honest opinion, the match with Shawn was the best match for Ric Flair to go out on. The next night, he had a great standing ovation and all the wrestlers from the back were coming out to give him a tremendous sendoff. Now, he had appeared two more times but no wrestling matches at all. The first time was to pick a fight with Jericho that went backstage and lead to a match between Chris Jericho and HHH. The next show would be him with this Vince McMahon million dollar giveaway helping Vince dial the phone and that's about it.

As far as he is going to go to TNA and wrestle, I actually hope not. What purpose would it serve? We've all ready seen flip-flops on retirement enough times to last a lifetime. Ric Flair is a legend and him getting back in the ring after the great sendoff that he had the night after Wrestlemania would be a complete slap in the face. Why would he want to do that? Personally, he probably has more respect than that.

I never thought this would happen as I noted in the opening. Ric Flair is someone that you would always imagine would be a WWE guy for the rest of his time in wrestling. Perhaps it is going to come to a close and will be time to settle down and walk off into the sunset. Regardless of what happened, Ric Flair is a legend and will be remembered as such.

I love me some Ric Flair! I was about 10 and he stopped and posed for a picture I was taking, at a match. Despite being a "Bad Guy" at the time.

Wow, learned something here. I did not know he ever came back. Guess I don't keep up on wrestling too well.

Goodness, he's got to be geriatric by now. He's had his time in the limelight, and a lot of it. Time to let it go.

I'm glad Ric Flair retired in style. He'll always be part of wrestling.
