Thoughts on Same Sex Marriages

Chen Salis
It doesn't really matter if we approve of homosexuality. It happens regardless of our individual personal feelings. I don't personally see the big deal. If two members of the same sex are in love, and want to be married to one another, how is it different from a traditional relationship? The important feelings are the same. I do not doubt that gays and lesbians fall in love, and have hopes and dreams of happily ever after. That is their right.

To many people, marriage is a union before God. Depending upon who you ask, homosexuality is a sin. I am not an expert, this is not my personal opinion... If homosexuality is a sin, then marriage would be moot. I guess that depends on your beliefs. Maybe we should call same sex marriages something like unions, or partnerships.

I believe that love can be experienced in so many outlets. Love is never wrong. I think that you are destined to love who you love. You have no control over feeling love, only the option to act on it. I believe that true love is rare, and if you have found it you are lucky. If it is a member of the same sex, who am I to judge you? What do I know? We could be heterosexual by default for all I know. If it is considered to be wrong and sinful to be in love with a member of your same sex, why isn't it wrong to love members of the same sex?

In France, there are ways to marry a corpse, but in America we frown on same sex unions? What is wrong with that? If homosexuality really bothers you, you can ignore it. You cannot however, deny people basic rights like life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We really can't prohibit love. If same sex couples share a life, they should be entitled to all of the luxuries and rights as a traditional couple.

Whether you like it or not, or approve of it, same sex couples will continue to exist. Approval isn't really necessary. It makes the people who don't approve seem rather silly. If you don't approve of a same sex marriage/union/relationship. then don't engage in one.

With so many important issues facing our country, it seems rather ridiculous that we are worried about love between members of the same sex. We should be focused on the war, recession, poverty, the homeless, the health care crisis. I could go on.
