Thoughts of St. Patrick's Day

Ramblings, Musings, and Memories

Gwen Navarrete
As a kid, I remember
St. Patrick's Day was all about
Green beer and green spaghetti
Four-leaf clovers, stories about leprechauns
And visions of pots o' gold

Don't think I ever went to a parade
Or wore a kilt
Or tried to play the bagpipes
Would probably be cool if I did

I do remember I loved the move
"Darby O'Gill and the Little People"
Starring Sean Connery
Boy, was he handsome and yes, he could sing
And banshees still scare the crap out of me

As I got older, I recall
Having the audacity to visit Dublin
And having nothing green to wear
For St. Paddy's Day

But I wasn't in Ireland
I was in Ohio
Yet I was admonished by a short, dark Filipino man
Wearing a "Kiss me, I'm Irish" T-shirt
Oh, wait - that was my dad

Now I'm in Vegas and it's all about bars
McFadden's, Hennessey's Tavern,
Fado's, and Nine Fine Irishmen
Oh yeah, pass the Guinness please

So my thoughts on St. Patrick's Day?
It may be Irish in origin
But it's American by tradition
Happy St. Paddy's Day, y'all
May the Luck of the Irish be with ye

Hmmm, nine fine Irishmen--now that's MY idea of a good way to spend the holiday! ;)

You should travel to Ireland this Paddy's Day; wear your dad's T-shirt!
