Many famous people have committed suicide including Vincent van Gogh, Sigmund Freud, etc.
Depression
Suicide is often a symptom of depression, but it can also happen in schizophrenia and other mental disorders. It can happen in bipolar disorder.
Psychology
Although I am in favor of psychotherapy and psychology, I feel that the results have been disappointing. The reason is that they don't get to the metabolic roots of the problems. They attack the symptoms, but you have to get to the causes of these symptoms. Workers such as Alfred Adler and Erik Erikson were unable to cure these matters. They did no harm, but the cost of these treatments is large.
Schizophrenia
In 1983 Orlovskaya and other Russian researchers found positive neuropathology findings in schizophrenia including ischemic, degenerative, and edematous changes of the neurons, and both proliferative and degenerative changes of the neuroglia. The finding of gliosis suggests a toxic process. Orlovskaya (1983) blamed metabolic changes in the brain. She saw schizophrenia as an encephalopathy with diffuse dystrophic processes.
In 1983 Orlovskaya described atrophy, lipoid sclerosis, synaptic degeneration, frontal & temporal cortical pathology, etc. The Korsakov Journal of Neurology and Psychiatry was named after the brilliant 19th century Russian neuropathologist and psychiatrist S. S. Korsakov. Korsakov never recieved a Nobel Prize because he died before the Prize was started. These prizes are not given posthumously.
S. S. Korsakov was head of the Dept. of Psychiatry at Moscow University.
The pathological anatomy of psychoses was described by D. D. Orlovskaya in a 1983 book called Handbook of Psychiatry, edited by A. A. Snezhnevsky. The book was published in Moscow.
Treatments
Kut'ko et al (1990) favored the use of vitamin E and hyperbaric oxygenation. Boehme (1977) and Polishchuk (1990) favored fasting diets.
Cuban Research
Mesa of Cuba reported a biological test for schizophrenia. This test involved examination of the blood platelets, which were giant in schizophrenia. There were glycogen deposits in the platelets and large vacuoles. The glycogen deposits suggest a defective glucose metabolism. The fact that the cells were giant suggests that they were overeating some macronutrients.
The Cuban work seems consistent with the Russian work, which included fat deposits. Fat deposits also suggest that the cells are overeating some macronutrients.
Mesa also reported findings in neurons, including particles.
"1. Widening of the nuclear envelope in neurons frequently observed in samples from the amygdala and the auditory cortex.
2. Presence of fibrillar material within this widened nuclear envelope.
3. Presence of inclusion bodies."
Conclusions
My own theory is that amino acids are flooding the cells. This would explain both the Russian data and the Cuban data, including platelet enlargement. This suggests a diet as a treatment. The diet would be very low in amino acids. A vegan diet is a good start because it is high in fiber. I don't favor fasting because I feel that fasting could lead to malnutrition.
Overnutrition is another problem. The brain cells may have overnutrition because they are overeating protein.

- Brilliant Russian Research on Schizophrenia The Russians have consistently demonstrated a toxic factor in schizophrenia. They do not appear to have done much on depression or bipolar disorder, probably because they have different diagnostic categories.
- Basic Research on Schizophrenia Brilliant basic research has been done by Mesa of Cuba and by Stevens of the US. This research proves that schizophrenia is organic and provides important clues.
- A Scientific Hypothesis for Schizophrenia The author formulates a scientific hypothesis based largely on neuropathology data and proposes a treament, which is a diet.
- The Autointoxication Theory of Schizophrenia Diseases, including schizophrenia, are often mistakes in evolution. A diet very low in amino acids is recommended.
- Cellular Degeneration in Neuropsychiatric Diseases Electron microscopy studies and light microscopy studies have both shown cellular degeneration in neuropsychiatric diseases. This author has attempted to put the pieces of the puzzle together.
