Thoughts from Wild Card Weekend

January 9th and 10th, 2010

Outside of Green Bay and Arizona, it was a pretty boring weekend.

Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that the Jets could go into Paul Brown and beat the Bengals. The Bengals are not world beaters but the Jets backed their way into the playoffs like not team I have ever seen before. This was one of the most undeserving teams to ever earn a playoff berth. I think this game shows what resting players does to a team. Once a team turns it off, even if it is only for a game or two, it is hard to turn it back on again.

Dallas just manhandled Philadelphia. Wade Phillips probably saved his job and Romo proved that he can at least get out of the first round. Felix Jones looked very good. I am sure that my father-in-law was not the only person on Saturday night questioning whether Jones is better than teammate Darren McFadden.

Baltimore absolutely owned New England. Baltimore owned New England like China owns our debt. Baltimore owned New England like Donald Trump owns Trump Towers. Baltimore owned New England...you get my point. I could not believe how much Baltimore ran the ball. When Ray Rice is running like that, why not? Games like this do not give Joe Flacco much confidence. Flacco is sitting in his hotel room right now wandering why in the world the Ravens even employ a quarterback.

Finally, an interesting game. Wen it was 31-10 Arizona, it looked as if this might have been the worst Wild Card weekend ever. Thanks to Aaron Rogers the Packers fought back and forced overtime before fumbling the ball at the wrong time and place. If this indeed would have been Kurt Warner's last game, it would not have been a bad way to go out. It should be noted that the Cardinals were able to win this game without a key piece in Boldin.
