Thoughts and Wishes are Paths to Freedom

Albert Adler
People strive for freedom. We all want to be strong, attractive and live in harmony with the environment and other people. Unfortunately only a few people attain that level of success in life. Those who were able to reach such freedom live in our memories.

What is holding us from becoming strong, attractive and harmonious beings? Our thoughts are holding us! Those thoughts are mostly live in our subconsciousness. They are so much hidden from us so that only by looking at the outer situation we can guess what was the thought that got us into it. These thoughts manipulate us by being hidden form us. We are essentially puppets or robots being manipulated by the thoughts we don't even know about.

It happens invisibly. Any thought that comes to us can become our master. Do we know about it? Of course we know it. There exists a saying: Thoughts own our minds. That means they own us. Out outer circumstances are reflections of our thoughts. They make us act accordingly. What can help us to recognize it? There is another saying: We are slaves of our own desires.

We can easily see how our thoughts own us by observing our desires. For instance a thought about a car comes to someone's head. It generates a wish to buy a car. This person now is amplifying his wish by returning to that thought over and over again until the desire to buy a car absorbs him completely. From this moment his life becomes overwhelmed with this thought-desire. He will be acting, feeling and thinking accordingly to this thought. This is just one tiny example out of infinite numbers of thoughts-desires in our day-to-day life. We always want to achieve something, to get something, control someone so that he or she act accordingly to our wants and beliefs.

Now there is a question:

Are we masters of our wants and desires or are we becoming slaves to them at certain moment when we get absorbed in our thought-desires?

How is it possible that our empowered thoughts begin to manipulate us? Our programming happens in two ways. The first one is the situation related to our survival in this world. For example we get very scared in some situation. Surge of emotions related to that situation momentarily is imprinted into our memory. Next time in similar situation we will automatically feel the same fear. We simply empowering that fear by reacting the same way in a similar situation.

The second way is continuous repetition of the same thought or emotion. We are always having self-talk inside our heads. We may or may not be aware of this internal conversation. Another good example is when we come together with our friends we may have conversation about how life becomes harder, how the gas prices skyrocket, how the economy is going down. The more we participate in such conversation the stronger become our beliefs that life is hard, there is always lack of money, our government doesn't care about people etc. Then those beliefs take on their own lives. The outer reality starts to reflect them for us. Indeed we find ourselves lacking money and life becoming harder and harder. Continuously repeated thought becomes imprinted in subconscious mind and begins to control our lives. We find the reflection of this thought in our outer reality.

Another amazing property of a thought is that thought can act as a magnet. We cannot measure its magnetic force but we can become aware of it if we watch carefully the situations in our life. This is so-called law of attraction. While we have certain thoughts they continue to attract certain situations related to those thoughts. We can be aware of what kinds of thoughts reside in our subconscious mind by analyzing the situations in or life. This way we can change our thoughts and beliefs to stop the unwanted situations from happening in or life.
