The economy isn't the best. It's no secret to those of us who've had to tighten the strings a bit, but school is coming, fall and winter is coming, and the kids need a new wardrobe. Rather than go bankrupt trying to keep up, check out ThredUp.com, you'll be glad you did.
What is it?
ThredUp.com is a trading place for parents to go and exchange their clothes. You post boxes of gently used or new items for other parents to purchase and you, in turn, get to purchase boxes of your own. Genius! This beats going to second hand stores looking for deals. It's cheaper and easier than searching racks or hauling your child's outgrown clothes to a donation center.
How does it work?
When you purchase a box, you get a medium, flat rate USPS box stuffed full of clothing for $5, plush $10.95 shipping. Believe me, the people who ship boxes stuff them clear full. You browse the boxes and look for descriptions in the sizes you need. Some have pictures, some don't, but all must be in good repair and any defects must be pointed out. In many cases, the items are new or been worn once, particularly in infant sizes. The clothing is not only for the little ones. You can buy items for your older children and even yourself. The sizing goes up to 20. You may also purchase boxes of toys, books, bedding, and other items. They even have "mommy boxes" filled with things like lotions, scrapbook supplies, etc.
In order to buy boxes you must post boxes. You can buy two boxes before you have to send boxes of your own. Posting boxes is easy. When you sign up, ThredUp! sends you a packet of boxes. You can also pick them up for free at your local post office. Post a description of your items, and pack your box full. Once you've posted your items, activate your boxes and wait. When someone picks your box, the website notifies you, you print out a prepaid shipping label, and the website automatically schedules for your postal worker to pick it up! It's that easy. The website also offers incentives where they give you site credit for posting certain sizes, referring friends, and other promotions.
I love this website. As a mother of a 1 1/2 year old, I have spent a lot of money on clothes and also have stockpiles of the things she's grown out of. This website has given me an excellent way to get rid of some of my items and get something in return. I've been a member for less than a month and have already sent five boxes and received a nice 24 month wardrobe for my little girl, complete with a coat. I've saved tons! I highly recommend this site, especially now, when our money needs to stretch a little further. So, don't wait, sign up today!
