Three New Alternative-Type Businesses Open in Ferndale

You know something's happening in Ferndale when the Chamber of Commerce has three ribbon-cutting ceremonies for new businesses within a week.

That's what happened in mid-November.

First on the list was Exhale at 23315 Woodward Ave. Exhale wants patrons to relax and enjoy relaxing activities. Grand opening participants encountered a numerologist and a tarot card reader. You never know what original ways you may find to exhale at Exhale.

Their website declares, "Exhale is a funky, fun, refreshing, relaxing environment where you can feel free to explore many alternative lifestyles. Exhale specializes in Holistic Alternatives where we provide personal consultation, a wide range of retail products specific to each discipline and services such as Massage Therapy, Chakra Hatha Yoga Classes, Numerology, Medical Marijuana Licensing and Tarot Card Readings."

Next was Avatar Studios at 309 W. Nine Mile Road. This is a tattoo and body-piercing operation that has expanded from its original home in Clarkston.

MiChigo Pizza at 255 W. Nine Mile, enticed Chamber of Commerce members back in August with samples of their deep-dish Chicago-style pizza. Now Ferndale residents can get a taste anytime they want.

Downtown Ferndale had a 30 percent vacancy rate a decade ago. With the comeback of recent years, the ratio has dipped well below 10 percent. Much of this was accomplished by slowing down the traffic along Nine Mile Road near Woodward. As Exhale, Avatar Studios and MiChigo Pizza are demonstrating, gone are the days when passersby simply whizzed through Ferndale.
