Three Amazing 2009 Music Videos that Went Viral!

Creative School Projects, Black Eyed Peas, and Oprah

Jan Peterson
The Music video is a growing art form. These three music videos are three of the most unique, infectious, fun videos I've seen, and have gone viral off YouTube. Two are music videos that were produced by students for school projects, and one is just an amazing video aired on the Oprah.show. I love each video's creative qualities and the fun factor integrated into them. They are full of energy and guaranteed to lift your spirits!

Music Video by University of Quebec in Montreal - "I Got a Feeling" Black Eyed Peas
Posted on YouTube September 11, 2009 - 4,519,495 views (Watch video here)

This video was part of a college project, and according to CNN's television news report, there are 172 players that performed this video at the University of Quebec in Montreal. The video producers planned it for a month, but many of the students in the video had only been on campus for a week, didn't know each other and arrived for the shoot that morning after learning the song. It took two hours to put together, two rehearsals, and only two takes. This video was the second take with NO EDITS!

What a fun school project, huh? I hope they got an A!

Music Video of the Black Eyed Peas performing "I Got a Feeling" for Oprah's 24th Season Premiere -Amazing Flashmob footage!
Posted on YouTube October 13, 2009 - 1,235,701 views (Watch video here, and a slideshow of the Oprah event here)

This amazing video was filmed September 8th, 2009 on Michigan Avenue in Chicago, as the Black Eyed Peas performed in celebration of the premiere of Oprah's 24th season. What is so amazing is that thousands of Oprah's fans secretly rehearsed prior to this show's taping to deliver this amazing, energetic, synchronized performance. It plays out like a mega line dance or sports arena wave, times a fun factor of a hundred!

As Oprah looked on, the audience starts out as just one female fan, in an otherwise subdued crowd, dances enthusiastically to the song. As the song progresses, the flashmob joins in waves and winds up as one giant, coordinated dance fest!. It is amazing to watch Michigan Avenue become alive as thousands of people work together to form an artful movement of arms and bodies!

Once the song and performance ended, Oprah was definitely surprised and could not stop screaming, "That was SO COOL! That was SO COOL! That was the coolest thing EVER! And it was! You can not watch this video without feeling your mood elevating! I watched it three times and kept thinking, "Wow! I wish I had been a part of this!". Can anyone help me get this addictive song out of my head now?

The Shorewood Lip Dub -ShorewoodHigh School - Hall and Oates, "You Make My Dreams Come True"
Posted on YouTube December 17, 2009 - 829,325 views (Watch video here)

A music video rivalry between two high schools, Shorecrest and Shorewood, in Shoreline, WA prompted this video and its unique concept. The Video was filmed backwards, starting at the end, by Shorewood's Mr. Ballew's Video Production 1 class at Shorewood High School in an effort to 'one up' the one-take video production made by Shorecrest to Outkast's song, "Hey Ya". Linda Brill writes about this in her article, "Rival Shoreline Schools in YouTube Music Battle" December 18. 2009 on the King 5 News website.

Shorewood's participating students and school staff had to learn how to sing the song backwards, so that when the production team rolled the footage from the beginning, which was really the ending, the video matched with the song! While the lip-sync isn't perfect, it is still an intriguing concept and video! They claim to have recorded this in one take as well! (If inclined to do so, you can vote for the best Shoreline video on the webpage that has Brill's article.) Great job Shorewood!

Wonder what the video looked from the real beginning? Watch it here, and their rival Shorecrest's "Hey Ya" video here.

I love the creative genius it took to make entertainment like these videos. I can't wait to see the new music videos that will undoubtedly be spawned using these three as seed ideas!
