Three Beauty Secrets Celebrities Say They Use but Likely Don't (And Why You Should)
Sometime Good PR is Good Common Sense
1. Demi Moore and Catherine Zeta-Jones: Honey-salt scrubs are the secret to their skin.
Let's be honest. These two have Botox doctors on call, drawers full of Creme de le Mer, and access to the best (meaning discreet) plastic surgeons in the world. The likelihood that a homemade scrub is the secret to their glow is pretty much nil, but that doesn't mean that this celebrity beauty secret isn't a spectacularly effective one.
For those of us in the real world, a honey-salt scrub is one of the quickest and most effective ways to get an all-over glow. Simply combine honey with fine salt (or, if that's too irritating to skin, try sugar), rub all over your body, then rinse off in the shower. For best results, try leaving it on for 5 minutes before rinsing for a total-body "facial" you can afford. The resultant skin will be soft, totally exfolliated, and glowing like J-Lo on Oscar night.
2. Jennifer Love Hewitt: Toothpaste for pimples
Jennifer Love Hewitt has made a career out of her youthful-looking skin. One of the downfalls, though, is that a youthful glow can mean occasional breakouts. She says she swears by plain old toothpaste to cure them (although we all know she probably has facialists on call).
Toothpaste really does work wonders on pimples, and can cure them overnight. Simply dab a bit on, then watch its drying properties take over. It simply sucks up the oil, dehydrating the whitehead, and leaves fresh new skin underneath.
(Quick hint: If you're stuck during the day with an obvious breakout, you can also put a few drops of Visine on it to immediately "take the red out.")
3. Gisele Bundchen: Take the stairs to stay in shape.
We all know Gisele has the best body in modeling today. And she swears that, to keep it, she doesn't work out, but just makes the effort to take the stairs instead of the elevator, so to speak. While I doubt highly that her perfect curves are due solely to the occasional walk from her car to her office (as opposed to amazing genetics, to say the least), this is a great tip for anyone wanting to get in shape.
While working as a physical trainer, the most frequent question I was asked was, "How can I lose weight quickly?" The answer is always simple: Calories in minus calories out is what will always determine your fat content. Therefore, if you want to lower your fat content and don't want to cut calories, just up the amount you burn. This can be as small as parking far away from the grocery store, then carrying your own bags to the car. Or, you might opt to take public transportation to work. The small acts of walking more while carrying goods will amaze you with the quick results.
