If you have a video game console or laptop at home you probably play games online. You can use a cable to hook up your system, but this might be impractical depending on where your internet modem is located.

Fortunately, you don't need to snake cords throughout your house. You can go wireless. All you need is a wireless router. There's a lot of routers out there, though, and it can be a challenge to figure out which one will provide you with a good online gaming experience. Here are three top-rate wireless routers that will give you the speed and dependability you need for under $50.

3) AmbiCom WL300N-AR 300 Mbps High-Speed Wireless-N Router: Range is the reason to pick up this powerful router. With three external antennas and lots of power, this router should work well even in larger homes.

It comes with the usual security features and also has 4 Ethernet ports. Setup is easy and fast with excellent documentation, but the documentation is geared mainly towards computers. Anybody that has set up a console to access a wireless network should have no problem with this, but if you have never done it before you might require a bit of help. You can view the specs of this router here.

It has push button access(allowing for easier setup of wireless devices), and is a great buy at $49.99, which is the price I found for it on eBay. It comes with a one-year warranty.

2) Trendnet TEW-647GA Wirless N Gaming Adapter: A dedicated wireless router(i.e., there are no Ethernet ports on this device), this device provides the roaring speed of wireless-N in a tiny package.

Setup is fast via disc and the two internal antennas give the router good range(about 150 ft.). This router is extremely reliable and has the latest security features. Wii owners should note you will need a special adapter(USB to 10/100 mbps adapter) to utilize this device. Check out the full specs here.

I found this router for $44.80 at salestores.com. It comes with an impressive 3-year warranty and should serve you well for a long time.

1) Buffalo Nfiniti Wireless-N Router and Access Point WHR-G300N: I picked this particular router up after I tried a Linksys router that was dead out of the box. This router performs flawlessly, with strong signal strength and wireless-N speed.

Setting up the router is easy with the enclosed disc, and the wireless features are set up using a password-protected web page. There is a button on top of the router that you press to set up your game system. Once pushed, you enter the router information on your system, and the router does the rest.

This router is very compact and has the approximate dimensions of a small sandwich. It supports the latest security protocols(like WPA2-PSK) and has a built-in firewall. It also has 4 Ethernet ports and a 2-year warranty. I found this router for $39.90 at kfstores.com. For that price, it is a tremendous value. To learn more about this router, click here.
