Down These Mean Streets by Piri Thomas

An interesting account of a Latino man growing up in Spanish Harlem during the 40's, an eye opening memoir of gangs, drugs, and prison.

This is one of the few books I've read that makes you feel as if your experiencing life through his shoes. Upon reading this book you can't help but think despite the things Thomas did, what were the real deciding factors for the unfortunate events in his life. Were they by his own making or a mix of his social political status and bad decisions as another poor kid from Harlem. This autobiography has it all, real life adventure love stories and comedy. Anyone not just the Hispanic community can relate to the book Down These Mean Streets by Piri Thomas, given the proper actors and director (Perhaps Spike Lee) I smell an Oscar.

The Art of War by Sun Tzu

A literary masterpiece on the implementation, execution, and stratagem of waging war, being written in the 6th century BC by a Chinese general is a testament to the timelessness and applications this book can be applied to. The Art Of War is laid out in written passages and a lesson is referenced by Master Sun and three other generals contribute their input on the lesson the passage is conveying, which gives different points of view on a teaching. I can see Master Sun through a thick fog of incense and the three other generals sitting in a darkened room by candlelight dressed in traditional Chinese garb. Going over the lessons then cutting to a scene where the lesson is actually played out probably by Jet Li. Given the martial arts movies that have come out most notable The Curse Of The Golden Flower and Hero. It would be awesome and complementing, to the current trend in martial arts films referencing events in Chinese history to make a movie of The Art Of War. Given the fact that there are references to the Yellow Emperor from the movie The Curse Of The Golden Flower found in the book The Art Of War.

At The Mountains Of Madness by H.P. Lovecraft

During the writing of this article I found out there's actually plans on making a movie about this book Guillermo Del Torro is directing so far Ron Perlman is casted to appear in the movie.

At The Mountains Of Madness is one of the few books that really gave me goosebumps, a glorious page turner for the horror fan. Its an account about an expedition to Antarctica where the City Of The Old Ones was found and the expedition team finds one of the creatures in a kind of hibernation and decides to dig it up and not long afterwords chaos ensues; (I won't spoil it read the book or wait for the movie kind of gives me the impression where the inspiration for the original Alien movie came from.) Given the right budget and talent I'd say you can have a serious blockbuster on your hands with bonus cult following. If Guillermo Del Torro reads this hurry up man I can't wait anymore!
