The Shack
Regardless of your own belief, this fiction book written by William P Young is a fantastic exploration of forgiveness and pain. When the protagonist in this story loses his beloved daughter in a horrible manner recovery is slow to come. Until the day he receives a note in the mail, apparently from God, inviting him to an encounter at the last place on earth he would want to be, the shack where it all took place.
What ensues is sometimes unbelievable but definitely, heart wrenching as Mackenzie, Mac to his friends, talks with God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Before you decide that this is just another religious book preaching the virtue of forgiveness you should know that God appears to Mac as a rather large black woman!
Cast
• God- Della Reese
• Jesus- Jim Caveziel
• Holy Spirit- computer generated
• Mac- Jeff Bridges (preferably with hair)
• Director- Richard Lagravenese ( the love and humor of PS I Love You was fantastic and exactly what The Shack would need)
Sookie Stackhouse Novels
HBO has already started a series based on these novels; however, a full-length feature film that stayed true to the actual storyline of the books would be nice. Not to complain overly but the original series True Blood on HBO focuses too much on the sex life of Sookie's brother Jason. The novels are much more about the relationship between Vampire Bill and Sookie.
Cast
• Sookie- Reese Witherspoon
• Vampire Bill- Johnny Depp
• Eric Northam- David Anders
• Jason Stackhouse- Justin Chambers
• Director- Patrick Tatopolous ( this movie needs a little Rise of the Lycans feel to it, instead of the hokey backwater drivel from HBO)
The Circle Trilogy -Ted Dekker
Christian fiction rarely makes it onto the big screen, and when it does it is surrounded by controversy and charges of preaching. Do you remember The Passion or Fireproof? Both of these were excellent movies but they were missing the mainstream feel of a good motion picture. While these books definitely have a message, they are also examples of a fantastic imagination on the part of the writer. The message is one of love, acceptance and redemption but set in a mythical type land with talking creatures and odd occurrences.
Cast
• Thomas- Ian Somerhalder
• Monique Raisin- Rhoma Mitra
• Rachelle- Cameron Diaz
• Kara- Demi Moore
• Director- Peter Jackson- This story could be every bit as much of an epic as Lord of the Rings
These books may not be on the best sellers list at the moment, but they are fantastic stories that would play out well on the silver screen with the right cast and director combination. Will any of the above ever see Hollywood? We can only hope!
