Three Businesses You Can Start RIGHT NOW - Part 2

Advertising That Costs Less Than $20

J.E. Ward
The economic recession has caused many to lose their jobs. Some who are jobless have found ways to make money by starting businesses of their own. Three easy businesses to start are: cleaning services, car detailing and lawn care. The wonderful fact about cleaning, car and lawn professionals is that they can contract with other existing businesses, organizations and individuals on a regular basis for continual income.

What is most important for survival in all three services is advertising. If the thought of spending hundreds of dollars on advertising a new business is a deterrent to starting, then don't. Don't spend hundreds of dollars, and don't be deterred. There are inexpensive and powerful ways of getting the word out about a new business.

First, let the work speak for itself. The cleaning service, car detailer and lawn professional can offer a demonstration to family members, friends and co-workers to announce the beginning of their company. At the end of the demonstration, ask them to write honest references. References and reviews are great sources for the beginning business owner.

Get some free business cards created (see link below). Give them to friends, relatives, co-workers and neighbors who might need the services offered. Ask them to give cards to people they know who may need the services. Word of mouth continually proves to be the best marketing tool. And look, no money is spent!

Another effective way of drawing attention to a new business venture is to have a car magnet designed with pertinent contact information on it (see link below). A logo is good, but not necessary in the beginning. Trips in your vehicle to the supermarket, the school, to a friend's house, when stopped at a traffic light, become times of advertising the business. Car magnets, like business cards, can be purchased for free or fairly cheap, just pay shipping costs.

Next, make flyers and post them in spots around town, at schools, stores, restaurants, and anywhere the proprietor will allow free advertising on a bulletin board.

While a website about a cleaning service may seem far-fetched, it's also a good marketing tool. Businesses use the World Wide Web to give their venture a more far-reaching feel. Like free business cards and cheap car magnets, a three page website can be set up for $4.95 a month(see link below). The business owner doesn't have to know or learn hypertext markup language to design a great website either.

One may wonder why a local car wash or cleaning service would bother to publish his business on the web. If the site can be linked to other websites in the area, like a Chamber of Commerce directory, then more visibility is created. Visibility is important to the growth and health of any business.

Business cards, car magnets, posters, and a website are just a few ways to get the word out about cleaning, car and lawn services without spending a lot of money. Cleaning, car and lawn services are just three businesses that a creative individual can explore and start. There are others which may be presented in a future article.
