Nothing says summer quite like ice cream, and Charlotte has several different places to go if you are wanting a taste of some cold creamy goodness. When my kids were small, rather than buy ice cream to keep in the house, we would just go out for an ice cream treat on occasion. It gave us all something to look forward to and also gave us a bit of extra family time together.
If you are looking for some great ice cream in Charlotte, check out some of the following places:
Mr. K's Soft Ice Cream. Mr. K's Soft Ice Cream has been a Charlotte fixture since 1967. The business has been family run ever since Mr. Theadore Karres and his family came to Charlotte in 1966. Originally from Greece, the family came to the US in search of a better life. Although the building is different, Mr. K's is still in the original location from when it first opened its doors, and is located in Charlotte's South End, across from Atherton Mill. Not only does Mr. K's serve up great soft ice cream, you can also find some of the best milkshakes, burgers, and hot dogs in the South.
Elizabeth Creamery Ice Cream Shop. If you're looking for yummy ice cream in a variety of flavors, then this is the place to go. Whether you enjoy plain vanilla or something more daring, you can find it at Elizabeth's. How about some praline ice cream? If that isn't daring enough, you can try green tea ice cream, or even some beer ice cream. Located near Presbyterian Hospital, Elizabeth's is the place to go if you are looking for some yummy homemade ice cream. Try and sundae or a shake as well. You won't be disappointed!
Carolina Creamery in Charlotte. Carolina Creamery is another place in Charlotte to visit if you are craving a frozen creamy treat during the hot summer months (or anytime, for that matter). The ice cream is homemade on site. There are picnic tables to sit and eat at, which is the perfect setting for a summer day. The kids will love it and so will you!
It might be a good idea to visit all 3 of these ice cream shops in Charlotte. It might be hard to pick your favorite, but you and your family will have a great time trying to decide.
