Three Cheap Ways to Decorate Your Front Porch for Christmas

There are many ways for a person to decorate their front porch for Christmas. However, it is very easy to spend lots of money on this small area of your home. There are a few ways to decorate the front porch with Christmas decorations that are reasonably inexpensive. There is your front door, the overhang for your front door, and the porch area as a whole.

One of the most cost-effective decorations for your front porch is the door. Most people would go with the traditional wreath. Create a wreath by using a bare wreath, purchased from your local hobby store. Then the idea is to add the picks and bows to the design as one sees fit. If one has purchased picks at the end of the holiday season from the prior year, this can cost you as little as $10 or $12. However, at the peak of the season, the picks can be pricey if you use a lot of them. The idea is to keep it simple. If you would like to expand on it next year, hit the after-Christmas sales and stock up on Christmas/Winter picks.

A favorite idea for door decoration is to cover the front door in wrapping paper. It makes the door appear as if it is a present. This will only cost you as much as it will to purchase wrapping paper. Keep in mind that the best paper to use is something that is festive and has a Christmas theme. To do it, you simply measure your door. Make sure you purchase enough paper to cover the entire door. Cut the pieces of paper to the specified length. Use Scotch tape to affix the multiple pieces together to make one solid piece. It is best to use two people to hang the door wrapping. Secure the paper to the door using Scotch tape, as it makes removing the paper much easier. If one prefers to have cut outs for windows, take measurements to have those openings. However, this can be a very time consuming step.

To decorate the overhang of the front door, one can use one of the decorative light sets. Hang these over the door. They come in shapes such as snowflakes, stars, or bells. These will draw attention to your front porch and focus the eye on the door wrapped like a present.

Finally, decorate the porch as a whole cheaply for Christmas using some of the artificial pine trees in pots. Some of them come pre-lit. However, the cheaper route is to get those that do not have lights yet, purchase a set of lights for each one, and add the lights on your own. The trees are more similar to a bush at only about three feet in height. Purchase them at places like Big Lots, Garden Ridge, and even at some stores such as Walgreen's or CVS.

With these three ideas, one will find their front porch festive and ready for Christmas parties and holiday visitors.
