Sprinkler System Problem #1: Leaking
One frequent issue that plagues consumers is when the water sprinkler system leaks. Not only can this drive up the utility bill but can be harmful to plants, flowers, and other types of greenery. The most common cause of a leaky sprinkler system is loose equipment, usually the sprinkler head. The sprinkler head should be secure, if it easily twists then it is too loose. In most cases, you can tighten this up by hand, no tools required. You should also check to make sure that pipes and fittings are not cracked, which will also contribute to leaking.
Sprinkler System Problem #2: Sprinkler is Not Watering
This common sprinkler system problem is often the easiest to fix. When the sprinkler is not watering at all it is usually due to human error. Although setting the timer is all that is required in some sprinkler systems, there are still quite a few timers that have to be manually turned on, even after setting. However, a blown fuse can also cause the same problem. Replace the fuse according to the owner's manual as directions may vary by the manufacturer.
Sprinkler System Problem #3: Sprinkler Will Not Detract After Watering
This is by far one of the most annoying sprinkler system problems that can be fixed with a little bit of "common sense". It took me weeks to figure out why the sprinklers in my lawn would not go back down, until I took a hard look. Debris commonly used to enhance the lawn or garden can get in the way of the sprinkler and prevent it from retracting. In my case, it was a single piece of mulch. Pebbles, yard ornaments, and similar items can often prevent the sprinkler from returning. If left too long, debris can actually damage the system.

Post a CommentHave you checked the water pressure coming from the well? If there is too much pressure, water will leak and sometimes the sprinkler will just continue to cycle.
i just bought a house with a underground sprinkler system and am on a private well for water when the system in on the pump cycles on and off way to much almost once every minute or so. I have changed the pressure regulator and the pressure tank is set at 30 50 psi any idea why it cycles so much
