Valentine's Day is almost here so the time to start making decorations is now. It is easy to make your own Valentine's Day decorations and it usually doesn't cost very much. Here are three make your own Valentine's Day decoration ideas that I have done one time or another.

The first idea, Dazzle Hearts, is the loveliest but takes some patience. It requires Valentine's Day type of garland and a cardboard box or poster board, scissors, a pen, and glue. First lay open the cardboard box or the poster board and draw a large heart. Draw another heart about an inch inside of the first heart. Cut the heart out on both lines to get a heart template.

Place a drop of glue at any point on the heart template and stick on the garland end. Carefully wrap the garland around the heart template, using drops of glue whenever needed to hold the garland in place. Set the heart aside.

Cut out a hangar from the cardboard or poster board by cutting a circle and cutting a hole in it. Glue the hangar in place at the top. When the glue is dry the Dazzle Heart can be hung up anywhere.

The second Valentine's Day decoration that you can make yourself is a Valentine's Day Wind Sock. All you need is an empty oatmeal box, some string, scissors, glue, markers, glitter and crepe paper. Begin by stuffing a shirt or something similar into the oatmeal box to help keep it solid during decorating.

Decorate the outside of your wind sock carefully with glue and glitter or markers. Stickers and garland are also a great thing to use. Don't be afraid to use your imagination. The wind sock can be decorated randomly or designed with focus on certain people or times.

After you are done decorating the oatmeal box, then pull out the stuffing and cut out the bottom. Cut several strips of crepe paper for the tails. Glue on the strips of crepe paper around the bottom of the oatmeal box. Cut out a hangar from the plastic oatmeal lid by cutting out a ring. Poke four perfectly spaced holes near the top of the wind sock. Cut four strings and tie each sting to its own hole. Tie the other end of the strings to the plastic cut out ring. Your Valentine's Day Wind Sock is now ready to hang.

Number three on the list of do-it-yourself Valentine's Day decorations is the Tissue Paper Cut Out Valentine's Day Wall Plaque. All you need to create this is two large poster boards, various colored tissue papers, glue, scissors, pencil, markers, glitter and stickers.

Start with a pencil and draw the plaque the way you want it to look when finished. Draw hearts to be cut out. Other shapes include butterflies, teddy bears, rabbits and tulips. When you are ready, carefully cut out the shapes, leaving a perfect shaped whole in your wall plaque.

The next step is to decorate the front of the wall plaque. It can be decorated in whatever way you want. Consider placing glitter around the shape holes though, but not too thick! Don't forget to write Happy Valentine's Day.

After you are done with the front, and the glue has dried thoroughly, flip it over onto a very clean and flat surface. Using small amounts of glue, or preferably a glue stick, cover the shape holes over with sheets of tissue paper, alternating colors. Glue the second poster board to the back, encasing the tissue paper.

The Tissue Paper Cut Out Valentine's Day Wall Plaque can be hung up several ways. There are removable wall clips that can be used, or hangars can be made and used with nails to hang up. This is really a personal choice.

I hope my list of three Valentine's Day decorations that you can make yourself helps you to celebrate Valentine's Day. Have fun!
