Three Easy and Inexpensive Preschool Christmas Craft Ideas

Are you looking for the perfect Christmas crafts for preschoolers? While there are many projects to pick and choose from, many may require a small investment and/or a lot of patience. The key lies in picking Christmas crafts and activities that your preschooler or preschoolers can do without a lot of help, without a huge mess, and that is relatively inexpensive. This is a guide to the top three Christmas craft ideas for preschoolers that are virtually hassle free and packed full of fun!

This first activity is a personal favorite of all the preschool Christmas crafts. Not only does it serve as a fun, holiday activity but is a keepsake that parents will treasure forever. All that is required is some construction paper, a pencil, scissors, glue and a marker. Have your preschooler to trace both hands and a foot, assisting as needed. They should then be cut out. Use the foot as the reindeer body, with the top being the head. An important note, each toe does not need to be cut out individually. Rather, you want a rounded appearance as this is the reindeer's head. Glue the tip of the palm cut out on the back of the "body" with the thumbs pointing inward. You now have a reindeer, all that is left is the eyes and nose. This can be done either with a marker or by cutting some out. This simple, easy to do preschool Christmas craft idea is great for an individual child or a whole class.

Clay ornaments are also among inexpensive Christmas craft ideas. While some may prefer to start from scratch and bake their own clay, I find it much easier to purchase ready made ornaments. These will cost anywhere from $1 to $3 at most hobby shops, depending on the design. This particular project is quite versatile because you can decorate in so many ways. Glitter, glue, and some ribbons is what we used last year for clay gift box ornaments. However, Christmas crafts such as these can become quite diverse and you may decorate with a variety of things. Just make sure that you allow for adequate drying time to avoid decorations from falling off. Preschool Christmas crafts like this may also become messy, so it is a good idea to decorate the ornament in an area that can easily be cleaned.

One of my child's most loved preschool Christmas crafts was to make reindeer food. All that is required is a small brown paper bag, about the size of a sac lunch bag, oats, glitter, and the materials outlined to make a reindeer. However, the antler's or hands should be placed on the end of the bag that folds. Mix plain oats with glitter, let your child design his or her bag, and put the name of the reindeer on it. On Christmas Eve, allow the child to sprinkle the reindeer food on the lawn in front of your home.

These three preschool Christmas craft ideas are sure to please any small child. All are family friendly Christmas crafts that will leave lasting memories. The best part is, almost all of these ideas are not only inexpensive but allow for a quick and easy clean up.
