Kay Baxter
Labor day is always especially important at our house as my husbands birthday always falls on this weekend. We always have quite a big crowd and they love to eat. I have found it best to have the appetizers out when guests arrive as it puts everyone at ease and takes the pressure off the person cooking on the grill. These Labor Day appetizer recipes will start your Labor Day Party off with a bang!

Here are 3 of our families favorite Labor Day appetizers!

BLT Dip

This dip is so yummy and goes fast! If you are expecting a larger crowd for Labor Day I suggest you double it.

1/2 lb Cooked and cut up or crumbled smoked bacon
1 Cup sour cream
1 Cup Mayonnaise
1 diced tomato
1 Cup shredded lettuce
1 bag of Garlic Bagel Chips or 1 bag of Tostitos

Mix together the sour cream and mayonnaise. Put into the bottom of a small square pan (approx 4x4) Next put a layer of lettuce. Cover with diced tomatoes. Cover with cooked bacon last. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least one hour before serving. Serve with garlic bagel chips or tostitos for dipping.

Smokies Wrapped In Bacon

I feel sure this will become a staple at everyones Labor Day Party.

1 lb un cooked smoked bacon
2 packages of Hershire Lil Smokies
1 bottle maple syrup
1 to 1.5 Cups brown sugar
Toothpicks

Cut each piece of bacon into approximately 4 pieces. Wrap each Smokey with one piece of the cut bacon and secure with a toothpick. Put each Smokey into a 9x14 pan that has been sprayed with Pam. Just keep layering the smokies into the pan as you go. Once they are all in the pan pour in half the bottle of maple syrup being sure to cover all the smokies. Top with 1 to 1.5 cups of brown sugar. Cook in 350 degree oven until the syrup and sugar caramelize. These can also be made in a crock pot if desired.

And now for our fastest and easiest Labor Day Appetizer recipe.

Bacon Wrapped Chestnuts

2-3 cans of water chestnuts drained
1 lb uncooked smoked bacon

Cut each piece of bacon into 4 pieces. Wrap each chestnut with one of the pieces of bacon and secure with a toothpick. Spray or line a cookie sheet and put all the Labor Day appetizers on the sheet. Bake in 350 degree oven until bacon is crispy.
