One: A really simple method is to take a piece of aluminum foil and crush it, or ball it up in your hand, shiny side out. Move the crushed foil back and forth along the visible rust spots on the aluminum, in a scrubbing motion, and you should see the aluminum return to a good as new state. This is a really simple, cost conscious, and effective way to get rid of those ugly spots that pop up from time to time on the window frames.
Two: Grab a Brillo pad, or other form of steel wool pad, and scrub back and forth on the spot. If you use a Brillo pad, or the like, you will have to rinse away the residue with a damp cloth and dry it thoroughly. If you use a steel wool pad, you can do so dry, and then simply wipe away any residue that may form from its use. If you choose this option to remove your rust marks or spotting, use care with the wool so that it does not come into contact with any other materials outside of the aluminum that may encompass any part of the window. Not doing so can result in scratched surfaces that are unsightly and difficult, if not impossible, depending on the material marred, to fix.
Three: You can purchase a rust remover in the cleaning section of most stores that designates use with aluminum. The method of using them is fairly simple, very straightforward. This is an effective method to remove the spots, but depending on the type of cleaner purchased, may require ventilation with use. Opt for green cleaners to do the job, if possible. And remember to keep the cleaner out of reach of children and pets in the home. If you are not sure of which item to purchase, you can ask for assistance in the store. Be sure to follow all manufacturer instructions when using a commercial cleaner.
There you have it; three very easy, cost effective ways to remove those ugly rust spots on your aluminum windows.
