Three Easy Ways to Make Money Online from Your Digital Photography

Websites for Earning Money Online from Your Digital Photos

Kristen Wilkerson
As a hobbyist in digital photography, I have explored many different websites for posting digital photos online. While several sites require a photographer to pay for the privilege to post their work, a few actually pay the photographer to do so.

Yahoo! Voices
One such site is a user generated content site run by Yahoo! By uploading a collection of digital photos into a slide show, digital photographs can generate income. People can sign up as subscribers of the slide shows. This means the subscribers will receive an email whenever the photographer posts a new slide show. Based on views, the photographer receives a monthly payment for their imagery.

Ideally, slide shows on Associated Content from Yahoo! have a particular theme and about three to five photos each. The photographer retains rights to their images. On each photo, the photographer should write keyword rich descriptions to help their slide show appear more often on search engines.

RedGage
A second website that pays photographers for their digital photos is RedGage. Photographers upload their digital photos onto their free account. Based on page views per image, the credit accrues in an account. After $25 is earned, the photographer receives a renewable debit card with their income. RedGage also features daily users and pays bonuses for particularly striking photos. The site pays a daily $25 raffle for additional income opportunities.

The process of uploading photos to RedGage is rather simple, and it is nice to earn money based on views of an individual photo. RedGage users can befriend another user or subscribe to their posts. A subscription at RedGage does not mean a visitor will receive an email notification. Rather, a subscriber receives a public notification on their dashboard. People leave comments on each others' photos, and it is a great way to meet other photographers from around the world.

Lulu
Finally, a third site that helps digital photographers receive income from their work is Lulu.com. Rather than receiving income based on page views, Lulu.com allows photographers to set prices for an actual photo download. This means that photographers should upload a large image to Lulu.com but web-optimized images for the other websites. Lulu.com is free to join, but the site keeps a portion of the photographer's sales as commission.

Other sites may exist that also help photographers earn money for their photos. If you know of any, please comment below to share that information with others. The web is ever-changing, so knowledge of other opportunities helps photographers everywhere.
