Eco Friendly Fabrics #1: Bamboo Fabric
I found this awesome bamboo fabric at the Fabric dot com web site. It is 100% Bamboo fabrics from Kaufman Fine Fabrics. What I love is that they are all natural and durable.
These eco friendly fabrics are also incredibly soft, which makes them perfect for home craft projects like clothing and purses. Parents will love that they are naturally anti-bacterial and odor-resistant.
Bamboo fabric is just about three times more absorbent than cotton. This is because the fibers of the bamboo plant are naturally porous. This means this fabric absorbs moisture away from the skin, so you can make great clothing from it.
I do find this product from Fabric Dot Com to be a little pricey at almost $17 a yard, but it is wide, so that helps a little.
Eco Friendly Fabrics #2: Patterned Fabric
So, if you are looking for a more patterned style of fabric versus the solid twill looking kind mentioned above then check out the KravetGreen website. They have a selection of printed fabrics made from 100% recycled polyester.
The Kravet Green Collection is made of 100% recycled polyester, which is perfect for eco friendly crafts. Their recycled polyester is a mix of post-industrial and post-consumer fibers.
Environmentally approved dyes are used to create the earth tone colored patterns on their fabric's They have a sort of muted Southwestern feel to me.
It should also be noted that even you use these fabrics they are recyclable.
Again, the price here is a little steep, but the look is super rich.
Eco Friendly Fabrics #3: Recycled Bottle Fabric
Finally, check out the Fabric Direct website for cool neutral fabric made from 80 percent recycled bottles. Yes, bottles! Pretty cool.
This cool fabric is Made from Recycled Cotton and Recycled Soda Bottles. Making this Eco Friendly Fabric have all the advantages an earth friendly craft would look for.
This fabric can be dyed and printed on just like traditional cotton fabric, so it is perfect for screen printing and other bag making crafts.
The drawbacks here is that is has to be bought in 10 yard rolls, so you may need to get together with other crafters to help make this more reasonable.
