Study Method #1:
Index cards: Have students write each of their spelling words out on an individual index card. The students can have a family member quiz them using the cards after they have studied them. Students can also organize the cards in alphabetical order to help them get a grasp on the spelling of the words before they are quizzed. Once they have the spelling words down they should mix them up and make sure they can still spell all the words.
Study Method #2:
Create a Word Search: You have to know how to spell the words in order to create a word search. To create a word search you must count the letters of your longest word. Then make your word search that many letters long and wide. For instance if your biggest spelling word is "awkwardly" then your word search would be 9 letters across and 9 letters down. Look at which spelling words can be linked together. That means which spelling words share a letter. If you also had the spelling word "claim" then the l in "awkwardly" would match the l in "claim". One word would have to go across and one down. Give this word search to someone else in your class and see how long it takes them to do. Maybe they will even create one for your.
Study Method #3:
Repitition: Write your spelling words out in a spelling journal. Then write them out 5 times each day. By the end of the week you should know all of your spelling words. Leave a box where you can record your spelling test score. Each week you can take a look back at all the spelling words you have learned and keep them fresh in your mind. You can also review the ones you got wrong on your test. Spelling should be forgotten just because your test is over. It is skill that you will use for the rest of your life.
