Writing
Many places look for freelance writers to write articles, such as Associated Content. For those who think writing isn't a job (and yes, there are nay sayers who feel that writing isn't even remotely close to a job - but tell that to Stephen King) it is a job and it can become a full time job if you have the drive, the motivation and the time. Some of these people that I've gotten to know on AC have these incredible outlooks on life and have the most amazing ability to write content that really matters - not the ho-hum too boring to read things like stereo instructions tend to be made out being. Writing isn't something "just anyone" can do, though. You have to have a pretty good grasp on your subject along with the ability to write clearly so that the common person can understand. Big words do not a better article make.
You also have to have the patience and understanding that for everything you write, there will be people impressed and people who critisize everything. This can be the most horrible part of writing - that fear of 'what if someone doesn't like what I've written?' But if you can take it as constructive and move forward from the experience positively, you may just have what it takes to be a writer.
There are many places online that you can write for and make an income, however AC so far has been the best one I've had experience in writing. Depending on the amount of articles you are wanting and able to produce in a day, you can make a bit of extra money to help out with bills, holidays or even just a little extra spending cash. Sure, you may submit an article and be displeased at the low offer (say 5 dollars in this instance) but multiply that. If you can do ten articles a week, that's automatically 50 dollars for using your creativity and mind. Two hundred a month - but they sometimes pay higher depending on the content.
Just be sure if you want to write and have a desire to write you don't overstress yourself by writing things you aren't familiar with. Never be afraid to ask others to look for typos along with grammar errors. But if you're good and dedicated, this can be a great help - especially in the winter with those ever rising gas costs.
This I do in my spare time. I sew. You may think that sewing is pretty ho hum and a pain in the backside, however, if you have the drive and desire to get good, you can make some profit off of this craft.
For example, I sew pillows - you know the kind - the decorative seasonal pillows that are so unique they can't be found anywhere else. In the beginning it took me over an hour to complete one, now it takes around 20 minutes of straight work time from measuring, cutting, sewing to stuffing. It also gives me something to do in my spare time if I can't think of anything to write.
If you don't think this is profitable, go to craft fairs locally. There are all kinds of hand-made crafts that are big sellers. I've even seen stands where people sell quilts, pillows and other little novelties that take true time and last much longer than machine made items tend to. In fact, if you're good enough, you can easily make 40 dollars off a pair of pillows. In fact, if you want to, find out when these events take place and sign up for a booth. Then hop to it and start sewing. You'll be amazed in time how fast you can make these pillows and how in demand they can be. Word of mouth can definitely be your best ally in this - if someone sees a pillow and goes, "Oh that is cute, where did you get it?" Then you just might get more business.
Surveys
Companies love issuing surveys to the public. They crave this information because it affects them directly. They hire places to conduct surveys for them and if you hit the right place, these can bring in a little extra cash.
To do this you just need to find the right paid survey site and sign up. Generally registration is free - remember you should NEVER have to pay to take surveys. Don't fall for these 'if you pay 49.99 now you'll be making millions in a year!' sites that tend to disappear after a while. There are many sites that desire users from certain demographics and this can be your ticket to making some cash.
I will admit sometimes they have dry spells where it'll seem like you aren't eligible for any surveys or you don't receive them, but don't fret - you will receive invititations to surveys and you will complete them. Some of these are merely five dollar offers or 'point' offers - which you save up points and earn ten dollars for every 1000 points that you earn. If you think that this may take too long to earn, you couldn't be more wrong.
Sometimes you get offers for 10 point surveys, but, if you answer the questions right you can be invited to take surveys for 75 points or higher depending on what they require. These extras can add up swiftly.
Also, sometimes you'll encounter a survey where they desire your feedback on a product. These can be better than pay sometimes. I, personally, received two trial bottles of salad dressing from a brand name company for free -only to tell them my honest opinions on both styles. Getting free samples and tests can be an awesome way to save money. Instead of paying money for something I buy weekly I got it for free- saving me twice the amount I'd generally spend and still getting a product.
While none of these can guarantee a certain amount of money per week or month, every little bit can and does help out if you're strapped for cash. Even if it is only for a little extra money during the week or some assistance on bills, don't ever fall into the idea that there aren't things you can d oat home. In fact, you never know when writing or sewing may become a full time business for you. Just look around, keep your eyes open for opportunities and you'll be fine.

Post a CommentI sew very vell, but had trouble marketing pillows. If you're looking for a topic for another article, how about some advice on how to help me unload all these cute pillows? LOL Good article. I enjoyed it. :)
Thank you Rebecca for your article about making $ from home. Your tips are right on the money. I would sew, if I could. My sewing machine is broken. I have not been able to find anyone to tell me how to repair it. Anita
Very good article. Maybe I will make some pillows in my spare time. Sounds fun.
