Three First Date Ideas in Detroit, Michigan

Candice W.
The city of Detroit offers many first date options. There are a number of things you can do to impress your date and have time to get to know him or her.

Here are some first date recommendations for Detroit.

Detroit Institute of Arts. Show off your cultured side with a date to the Detroit Institute of Arts, affectionately known as the DIA. This art museum is in midtown amid the Wayne State University campus. There are traveling exhibits that come to the museum so check out the offerings before you go. Enjoy some live music on Friday evening. Among the other evening activities are art workshops and guided tours. The Detroit Film Theatre offers an enlightening film selection.

Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors, $4 for children 6-17 and free for children five and younger. The DIA hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. The museum is closed Mondays and Tuesdays. The Detroit Institute of Arts is at 5200 Woodward Avenue.

Belle Isle. On a warm day, one nice date option is a trip to Belle Isle. This 980-acre island sits in the Detroit River. You can take a picnic lunch on the island, sit and talk. Feed the ducks and geese along the river's shore. If either of you like taking pictures, you can capture nature scenes with a camera and an image of you two on your first date. It is free admission to Belle Isle. Just drive over a bridge and you're there.

Cadieux Café. On Detroit's east side, you'll find a restaurant with live music and good food. Your date will be impressed with a trip to the Cadieux Cafe. This café has been a popular dining location and hangout spot for the locals since at least the 1960's. Enjoy a game of featherbowling, a Belgian pastime similar to horseshoes. Learn more about featherbowling before you go so you can explain the game to your date. The Cadieux Cafe is the only place in the United States to offer the game. This restaurant serves Belgian dishes, mussels and sandwiches. Learn more about Cadieux Café at www.cadieuxcafe.com.

These three Detroit first date ideas will appeal to a variety of people so choose the one that's the most fitting for you and your date.
