Three fun bars in the Des Moines area include Murphy's, Mickey Finn's and Down Under Bar and Grill. They are all located on the northwestern side of town and would be easily visited in one evening.

Down Under is a great sports bar located in NW Des Moines.

It's also a neighborhood bar kind of place that offers a large covered patio, great food and beverages. Pool, darts, video gulf and other video games are available.

If you're looking for a great place to get something to eat and drink or to just slide onto a bar stool and chat with neighborhood folks, Down Under is the place for you. The food is American style with mid range Des Moines prices.

Murphy's Bar and Grill has been rated Des Moines' Hottest Sports Bar and Restaurant.

Breakfast is served from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m and lunch is served from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday at Murphy's Bar and Grill in Urbandale.

Other kitchen hours include 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.

Bar hours include 11 a.m. until closing on Monday through Thursday and 11 a.m. until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Murphy's is located at 2675 100 th Street, one block north of Hickman. They serve excellent food and have nightly drink specials and live music. Murphy's will serve for parties or other occasions and is known for its friendliness and happy hour specials. Try Murphy's after work, some evening or weekend. Enjoy a good time with your friends and meet new people along the way.

Micky Finn's bar in the Urbandale strip mall, downtown Urbandale.

Mickey Finn's is a great local, neighborhood bar. Hours are 9 a.m. until 2 a.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. until 2 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. During football season, Mickey Finn's opens at 9 a.m. when Iowa or Iowa State kick off early morning. Free food is often served on Saturday and Sunday during the games.

Mickey Finn's claim to fame include a great fake Blarney Stone and a women's bathroom which might even be considered "posh" by Des Moines' bar standards.

The Scooby Snack and Captain Smoothy are two featured drinks at Mickey Finn's. Drink prices are mid-range and you'll find whatever you wish to suit your needs.

Mickey Finn's is located at Douglas and 70th with wheelchair access. Call 515-270-8738 if you have questions. Parking, as in all above bars is free. It has pool tables, darts and video games. Foods include appetizers and snacks. Special features of Micky Finn's include the happy hour, jukebox and karaoke.

If you live in Des Moines and are looking for a different place to hoist a drink, try these bars on the northwest side. If you're visiting, be sure to give them a try. You'll feel comfortable and have fun.
