Three Fun Christmas Craft Ideas for Your Preschool Age Child

Christmas Crafts to Do with Your Preschooler with Items Found Around the House

Jolene Thomas
Having three children myself, I have done my share of Christmas crafts. I have decided to share my three favorite Christmas crafts to do with preschoolers. All three of my preschool Christmas crafts are easy to do, and are made with common household items.

Christmas Hand Wreath

The Christmas hand wreath is a fun Christmas craft that gets the whole family involved.

Supplies Needed:
Construction Paper
Safety Scissors
Paper Plate
Glue, Glue Stick, or Paste
Yarn or String

Step 1) Fold the paper plate in half, cut the center out, so you are left with the outer ridge of the plate. It should look like a plain wreath.

Step 2) Have your preschooler trace six adult hands* and their own hand 12 times. Help them by cutting the hand out.

Step 3) Glue the big hands on your paper plate wreath first, spreading them around to fit the circle.

Step 4) Glue the child hands evenly around the wreath on top of the adult hands.

Step 5) Make a loop out of yarn or string, and glue it to the back of your wreath for hanging.

* We also use sibling hands and make more than two layers sometimes. It could also be made with just the child hand.

Colorful Christmas Snowflakes

Bring snowflakes inside the house. This is a fun Christmas craft to make and include with your Christmas cards to relatives.

Supplies Needed:
Crayons
Safety Scissors
Round Coffee Filters
Tape

Step 1) Press coffee filters flat and decorate them any way the child likes.

Step 2) Fold the coffee filter in half with the picture they drew on the inside, then fold into fourths.

Step 3) Cut little triangles out of the folded sides. Open to revel the snowflake.

Step 4) Make small loops out of the tape and stick the snowflakes to the window or wall.

Decorated Christmas Tree

This is a great Christmas craft to get their imagination going with a lot of hands on fun.

Supplies Needed:
Green Construction Paper
Other Colors of Construction Paper
Safety Scissors
Crayons
Glue, Glue Stick or Paste
Tape or String for hanging
Glitter (optional)

Step 1) Fold the green construction paper in half long way. With the fold on the right, cut a straight line from the top right folded corner down to the bottom left open side. You should be left with a large triangle Christmas tree.

Step 2) Cut circles out of other colors of construction paper and allow the child to use crayons to decorate them.

Step 3) Allow child to glue the decorations on their tree.

Step 4) Allow child to draw lights or other decorations on the tree with crayons. Glitter can be used to add sparking lights.

Step 5) Use tape or sting to hang up your newly decorated Christmas tree.

* An adult should always help a preschooler use safety scissors and should always remain in the room when scissors are out.
