Two days prior to our trip we set out to the camping site to book our lot. Nice one by the way, right next to the lake and pretty cleared out space. We were so excited. That evening we headed to Walmart for the camping shopping trip. None of us had a tent so of course we bought one. We were on a budget so we had to get the cheapest one out there which in terms meant the smallest one. It only was suppose to sleep 2, we had 3! Grad food, drinks, and a few other decorating stuff which I will talk about later on.
The day of the camping trip we loaded up my truck and my other friends car and headed down to the camping site. The decorating things we bought went up first. We are so city that we bought the fake turf carpet and rolled it out all along our camping site. It looked like grass laying there! Next we lined the carpets edges with these cute little plastic flower cups on sticks that we thought were made for candles (the type of candles that keep the bugs away). We had over 20 over them and all in different, bold, colors. We were so proud that our campsite was starting to look so good. Next we popped up the tent (which took us girls about 3 hours to figure out!) and then placed some lawn chairs around the camp fire. Threw a cute little table cloth over the picnic table. Oh we so had the place decked out.
After everything was set up we placed candles in the cute flower cups we bought and lite them up. After we had them lite up we decided that we were going to take a walk around the camp park to see if there were any guys camping, because you know as teen girls we were always looking for some cute guys to talk to. After about being away for an hour we started walking back to our campsite and noticed it was pretty light coming from our section of the camp ground. Come to find out the candles we put in the candle flower cups caught on fire and every single on of them were blazing flames up. We ran over to them and started pouring the gallons of water we bought to drink on them to get the fires out. Finally, after an hour, there was no more fire! Come to find out those flower cups were not candle holders but cup holders for you to place near chairs and to place your cups in. Nice, like I said city girls!
So that night after we almost set the camp ground on fire we headed to bed. Remember how I said the tent only held 2 and there was three of us, well really the tent only sleeps one comfortably. We were so miserable, but it isn't like we got much sleep because about middle through the night we heard footsteps around the outside of our tent and we didn't know what type of animal it was. I was prepared though because I had a knife in the tent with us "just in case". To be honest with you I wasn't sure what I would of done to protect ourselves with a little knife because I am more like the girl who runs the other way.
So, for about an hour we laid there in the tent, knife in hand and were not about to go out of the tent. All of a sudden someone jumped onto the tent and we started screaming. We unzipped the door and ran out. Five of our closet guy friends were all standing there with the cameras ready for us as we popped out. We laughed so hard, after we yelled for about 20 minutes.
We were suppose to stay for 2 more nights, but after that first night we realized that camping was not made for us, so the next morning, really early we loaded up and headed out! Since then I have never been back camping! Even though I live in the country, I will never be that country at heart to do it again.
